Reminded me as I posted another article on the Wuhan lab being investigated.

I talked to my Dad about this at length yesterday. He thought we should erase ALL debt to them and stop all connections political ties as a result. I explained to him what my opinion was - and I don't know if this is valid or not, but I believe so:

As things stand right now, we rely on China for a TON. While we need to figure out a way to start having it all come back here, or stretch out where we get things, but it won't be nearly overnight. We need all kinds of things from them that we literally have to have. Medications and such. And it would also do harm to us if they stopped buying things from us as well. So dang much is relied on from one another that it's likely the main reason we stay friendly. No alternative, yet. Oh, and a lot of food too! That needs to change if possible, IMO. Maybe out of all the things we import from China, set it all apart and see what else can also be purchased elsewhere, and have options. AND, China buys a ton from our farmers, and that would surely hurt too.

Our top 10 imports from China, and then drug info from around the web.

1st the top 10 imports from China:

Electronic equipment
Toys and games (don't minimize gaming, loads of money)
Machines, engines & pumps
Furniture and lighting
Footwear
Knit clothing
Other clothing
Plastics
Iron and Steel products
Vehicles

And look at all of the above, and think of WHY? Either cheaper (and usually inferior), or so much made in warehouses full of people for less wages lessening costs.

And now the Drug articles, and how they got us by the Nads. Just cutting out the important info. I think we need to start spending billions for now on stockpiling, and hopefully work towards branching out where supplies come from, or bring them home.

The hidden perils of drugs imported from China

When you pick up your prescription at the pharmacy, it isn’t labelled “made in China,” but odds are that’s where many of your medications come from.

President Trump is calling on US industries to manufacture here at home, instead of outsourcing to China. Drug companies — which now rely on China for active ingredients that go into antibiotics, heart medicines and other drugs we need to stay alive — should be the first to respond to Trump’s plea.

That reliance is a threat to national security. And the squalid conditions in many Chinese drug factories pose a health risk to Americans who have to take the medicines.

The United States wouldn’t outsource the manufacture of fighter planes and tanks to China; that would put our national security in the hands of an adversary. But even US military personnel take medications from China.

US factories no longer make generic antibiotics. So, if US-China tensions worsen, China could cut off antibiotic exports, throwing our hospitals into turmoil, warns Hastings Center health expert Rosemary Gibson.

The federal US-China Economic and Safety Review Commission warned this summer about the dangers of American reliance on China for life-saving drugs. If the US were attacked with anthrax, China would be a major source for ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic needed to treat victims. “What if China were the anthrax attacker?” Gibson asked.

The commission also cautioned about “serious deficiencies in health and safety standards” in Chinese drug factories. Translation: Beware of putting anything made in China in your mouth.

The Food and Drug Administration claims pharmaceutical ingredients from China are safe. Don’t believe it. The agency has a long history of failing to oversee foreign drug sources, according to scathing reports from the federal Government Accountability Office.

The GAO found that the FDA inspects Chinese drug manufacturing plants infrequently, at best, and some may never get inspected. In the United States, pharmaceutical plants are inspected every two years.

America too dependent on China for its medicine, experts warn

Experts are warning America has become too dependent on China for its medicine -- everything from painkillers, to antibiotics, and even aspirin can all be sourced back to a country the Department of Defense considers an adversary.

The Food and Drug Administration estimates that at least 80 percent of the active ingredients found in all of America's medicines come from abroad – primarily China.

"Imagine if China turned off that spigot," said Rosemary Gibson, author of "China RX: The Risks of America's Dependence on China for Medicine." "China's aim is to become the global pharmacy to the world -- it says that. It wants to disrupt, to dominate, and displace American and other Western companies."

U.S. officials worried about Chinese control of American drug supply

"Basically we've outsourced our entire industry to China," retired Brig. Gen. John Adams told NBC News. "That is a strategic vulnerability."

Antibiotics, which turn life-threatening infections into minor nuisances, are considered the single biggest advance in modern medicine.

But imagine if the supply of antibiotics to the United States was suddenly cut off.

American national security officials are worrying about that scenario as they come to grips with this little understood fact: The vast majority of key ingredients for drugs that many Americans rely on are manufactured abroad, mostly in China.

"If China shut the door on exports of medicines and their key ingredients and raw material, U.S. hospitals and military hospitals and clinics would cease to function within months, if not days," said Rosemary Gibson, author of a book on the subject, "China Rx."

Or, Gibson told NBC News, China could potentially "weaponize our medicines. They can sell us medicines without any medicine in them. They can sell medicines that have lethal contaminants in it."

Other generic drugs whose key ingredients are manufactured in China include medicines for blood pressure medicine, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, epilepsy and depression, Gibson says.

"We can't make penicillin anymore," said Gibson. "The last penicillin plant in the United States closed in 2004."

Where Your Drugs Come From: 90% of Many Common Drugs Made in China; FDA has Lost Control

American consumers have no idea that the majority of the over-the-counter drugs they buy come from China, where there are few regulations. The increasing dependence on China for active pharmaceutical ingredients and nutritional supplements is of growing concern. China is the world's largest manufacturer of bulk drugs and nutritional supplements and is now exporting a large portion of its production to the United States. U.S. Dependence on Pharmaceutical Products From China

Last month, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission held a hearing on the United States’ growing reliance on China's pharmaceutical products. The topic reminded me of a spirited discussion described in Bob Woodward’s book, Fear: Trump in the White House. In the discussion, Gary Cohn, then chief economic advisor to President Trump, argued against a trade war with China by invoking a Department of Commerce study that found that 97 percent of all antibiotics in the United States came from China. “If you’re the Chinese and you want to really just destroy us, just stop sending us antibiotics,” he said.

While the Department of Defense only purchases a small quantity of finished pharmaceuticals from China, about 80 percent of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used to make drugs in the United States are said to come from China and other countries like India.

China’s Lock on Drugs

TWO PILLARS OF TRUMP administration policy – combating the soaring prices for prescription drugs and equalizing the U.S. trade imbalance with China – appear to be on a collision course, drug and foreign policy experts say.

That's because the key ingredients for so many essential drugs, from antibiotics and birth control pills to treatments for cancer, depression, high cholesterol and HIV/AIDS, are purchased from China, says Rosemary Gibson, co-author with Janardan Prasad Singh of a new book called "ChinaRx: Exposing the Risks of America's Dependence on China for Medicine."

China has exclusive manufacturing agreements for drugs for anesthesia, cancer and HIV/AIDS, along with other medicines that "we use every day, not only in hospitals but in our own medicine chests," Gibson says, adding that China is now the world's only source of antibiotics, including the main ingredient in vancomycin, a treatment of last resort that is used by patients who are suffering from infections that are resistant to other treatment.

"It's a huge dramatic shift and nobody knows about it," Gibson says. "And they're just ramping up. It's all part of a plan that China laid out in its 2025 initiative to become the pharmacy to the world."
