First they accidentally took down Ukrainian passenger plane, thinking it American military. Now they sunk one of their own frigates, killing dozens:

The friendly fire may have killed dozens of servicemen, Al Jazeera have reported.
According to local media, an Iranian battleship was accidentally hit by a C-802 Noor missile during military exercises, causing it to sink.

ELINT News reported that the Iranian Jamaran frigate accidentally fired on the Konarak support ship with an anti-ship cruise missile during exercises.

How in the hell do you sink one of your own ships? Do they look before hitting buttons? A lot of deaths over stupidity.

This is almost as awesome as Venezuela ramming a cruise ship and sinking.

Maybe these two nations of incompetents can get together and hold war games and save everyone else the trouble.

So, as it turns out the vessel wasn't sunk and the Iranians managed to tow it in to port. However, it looks like a total loss, that missile really did a number on that boat.

Whenever something happens of a military nature all around the globe, these guys are the best resource on the net and their comments section is loaded with active and retired military guys who are extremely knowledgeable - of course, they're targeted with Russian and Chinese propagandists; but they're quickly identified and openly mocked for their efforts.

They've got pics of it in port and a good analysis of what happened : https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/33395/heres-all-thats-left-of-iranian-navy-ship-struck-by-missile-in-friendly-fire-tragedy

It'd be a terrible mistake to laugh at this or think Iran is weak because of it.

Iran will learn from this failure to ensure it doesn't occur in real combat.

An Iranian "battleship". Pictures of the beached USS Minnow are coming to mind. I wonder which enterprising nation scored on THAT surplus sale? And one missile took it out?

What would one be shooting an armed, live missile at in an exercise anyway? (well, besides one's own battleship :))

I think that was the mistake , the incompetent fools didn't mean to fire an actual live missile.
