Needing regular vaccines and such. But if more deadly and more contagious, not a good thing.

What y'all think, eventually eradicated, or continues on like the flu?

Top British Researcher: Coronavirus Will be Around 'Forever in Some Form or Another'

A top British researcher says coronavirus will be with people "forever in some form or another," and people will need regular vaccinations, according to the BBC.

Sir Mark Walport's remarks followed comments from the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) saying he wished the pandemic would end within two years like the Spanish flu did.

Sir Mark said countries are more densely populated and people travel more than in 1918 when the Spanish Flu struck.

During an interview with BBC Radio 4, Sir Mark said to control coronavirus outbreaks, "global vaccination" would be needed, but that the disease is not like smallpox, which was easily eradicated by vaccination."

"This is a virus that is going to be with us forever in some form or another, and almost certainly will require repeated vaccinations," Mark said. "So, a bit like flu, people will need re-vaccination at regular intervals."

Was always the "new flu". When I was a kid, no flu vaccine but Public Enemy #1 was polio then rubella (German measles). We didn't have a vaccine for the "regular" measles, bor chickenpox. You got them, you got them.

Once this one gets done wreaking its initial havoc on those vulnerable to the "newness" of it, it'll settle down to "flu status". People are still going to die. People have died from the flu as far back as I can remember. We'll get used to it and something worse will come along.

And the fearmongers will go into their end of the World routine again.

Some may not remember or be old enough to, but in the early-mid-80s when someone in their infinite wisdom finally identified HIV/AIDS for what it is, we went through a similar panic, though not as drastic. As now, nobody knew any real answers. "Knowledge" was mostly fear/gossip driven. And I mean stupid crap like, you HAD TO have a gym towel in the gym and you could not share gym towels but you MUST wipe down all equipment with your towel after each set. This all amounting basically to everyone in the gym sharing one big towel

You could get it from this, you could get it from that. Then again, no you couldn't. Depended on what day it was and who you listened to. They had everyone paranoid of what/who they touched. I recall once insisting the waitress clear the table and clean it before the wife, kid, and I were going to so much as touch it. We didn't know.

Real threat or not, it taught me an invaluable lesson in the use of fear, and those who were using it.

Let's see, not nearly as contagious as initially thought, numerous medications available to treat symptoms, most severe threat to those over 65, children are effectively immune from the disease, fatality rate below one half of one percent. OK, I've lived through much greater threats in my life, I'll deal with this one hanging around.

I, myself, just can't wait for them to force my daughter (teacher) and two elementary school-age grandchildren into school in 2 weeks. You know it's coming home and I am the one most at risk.

I'm just trying to keep some kind of objectivity about the topic. Your line doesn't sell well on this board because half of us are 60 or older, and the rest pushing it. As you say, I've been through worse. I'm going to catch it or not, and it's going to kill me or I'm going to kill it. There are people petrified because of it. I decided long ago I was not going to push the issue with those type people because we are ALL afraid of something.

I figure if it kills me, I'll go from here and now to assuming the position in front of the Commandant upstairs and listening to a long list of stuff I have nowhere to hide from :)

More to the topic, this Nation cannot continue as is. Hiding from a virus while political ne-er do well's and criminals run rampant across the country doing as they please. We can't just hide out until there is a vaccine. Especially with everyone being so spoiled that they want a perfect, infallible vaccine that will have to be tested to death (on someone) before our stupid government will release it. Then we'll have to wait for it to trickle down to us "mere mortals".

But I for one and not going to live on Orwell's Animal Farm indefinitely. This should never have been politicized and the more it is, the more resistant I have become to being willing to listen to ANYONE telling me what to do. I'm sick of this chickenshit sheep crap.

I just turned 63, I'm an essential employee that has been working 48 to 52 hrs a week with 350 on my shift of all ages and races. About 10% wear masks with social distancing quite often nonexistent. On all four shifts there have been a total of five positive tests with none of them being hospitalized. Very few have a problem heading down to Kroger, Home Depot or any restaurant in town and fully expect them to be open.

At my annual physical, my doctor prescribed and MMR booster shot. Apparently, no adult that has had a recent (last 10 years) booster has died of COVID with less that 5% ever hospitalized. This is the speculation as to why kids don't get COVID since all need MMR shots to attend school. Worldwide, there have been no reported cases of transmission from student to teacher with the vast majority of cases of student infections occurring within the home of other adults.

Yeah,, I worry about this but I don't obsess over it. It seems that if you're under 75, without significant comorbidities and not living in a nursing home where one cannot segregate themselves if necessary, there doesn't seem to be a much greater risk than a bad flu season. Thank God the curve was not only bent but squashed. This allows for immediate treatment for anyone that needs it with a wide array of medicines and therapies. Combine this with the promise of one and possibly multiple vaccines available in less than a year and a reduction in the pandemic panic porn distributed on a daily basis by the MSM and Democrats and this too should fade into oblivion shortly. Add it to the pile of Russian collusion, Ukrainian meddling, war with Iran and/or N. Korea and whatever the crisis du jour has been over the past 3 and a half years. Proof that the Deep Staters know the panic over the non-pandemic is lessening, they had to release the 'brown shirts' into the streets to keep the anxiety levels elevated throughout the population.
