Elessar kind of disappeared in the middle of 11/2019 and no one has seen him since.

I reached out to no avail a few times, but finally did some searching the other day, and found his brother on Facebook. And the way I found him was via the search, and his brother announcing that he had passed away very shortly after his last post here.

Elessar was a longtime member and friend to many here on the board.

He was a long time member of the United Stated Coast Guard and was extremely dedicated soldier and veteran. His USCG service was as follows:

U.S. Coast Guard Active Duty from May 1978 to July 2003

BM1 / E-6, advanced to BMC /E-7, but declined and retired to take:

GS-11 / Search and Rescue Spcialist, USCG from Aug 2003 to the present - Dec 2014.

To honor Elessar, his friendship to us all & his dedicated service to our country - I am adding a ribbon to the top of the board honoring him, and it will remain there so long as I ever own and run this site. And even if ever close down, I would continue paying to place a placard page of honor to our fallen members.

Godspeed, Elessar

Additionally, while in the idea stage still, I would like to create a page on our site dedicated to our veterans. Perhaps along the lines of a bio and remembrance of each.

Thoughts? Decent idea? Anything others would like to see or add, speak up or shoot me a message.

The ribbons may seem different as they are. Instead of making them slightly transparent, I used regular this time to have them stand out, as I felt they are more deserving.

I can't help the pixelation and lack of being perfect, as imaging and editing is not my better part of the IT world.

I would be more than happy to share the original photo, and the original ribbons, if anyone knows imaging better? Or even alternative ribbons of honor? I am just not that good at this stuff. Maybe it's the ribbon I used as a starting point, not sure.

This is the original:

Then the starting point ribbon. But then it needs to be resized to fit with others on the small image, and names included.

If you do not see any changes - first try hitting F5 to do a hard reload. If you still don't see it, then open this link for the image:

http://www.debatepolicy.com/images/debate_policy/misc/header_r.jpg

If you see the old one, hit F5 on the image and you should see the new one. And now if you hit F5 on the main page it should refresh properly. Based in various browsers and how they save temp images and don't wanna refresh, sometimes folks won't even see it.

And Fwiw, at least for now - I did go back to the semi-transparent ribbons so as not to blind. I want the more recognition but also don't want to make it a visual embarrassment either.

So you should see this:

Thanks, Jim. I like the ribbons as they do help me to remember some very special guys.

To the RIGHT top of the page...click on Images...then type in ribbon. It works even if you want a tiny one. Good luck.

Really sad. Makes me wonder how many members didn't just walk away but passed away.

Hey Jim,

I don't have F5 button on my tablet. Can't see his ribbon.

Hey Jim,

F5 is actually a normal reload
Shift-F5 is a hard refresh/reload

Alternative - delete the temp files/cookies/history/cache or whatever it's called in the browser of your tablet. If that doesn't work, tell me the model of tablet you're using, or shoot it to me via a PM and we get it sorted easily enough. Your tablet is loading the old image - as it takes all the images and stores them in your cache/temp folder and uses those images to load pages faster. Delete them and it's got no choice but to reload everything.

http://www.debatepolicy.com/veterans.phpWe already have a military forum. And the ribbons which I think are nice. I think it a bit much to duplicate it considering how many of us are left.

That wasn't going to be a forum of any kind. Just a static page, like a Wiki entry for example.

But I see your point and I agree. Not sure many or any even checked it out, and we should concentrate more so and getting what we currently have to get more involved. I just went off on a tangent, which I do often, which sometimes leads to overkill, redundancy or stuff folks don't have much of an interest in, outside of posting.

El's father had recently passed away. I think about a year or so ago. He never got over that, but this must be tough on the family.

Took me a while to find the proper way to talk about "Boats".

One thing I know, he and I shared a love for Calvin & Hobbs

Saw this and knew I had to share.
