Why take a chance? Why take a chance if a camera is even in the room? Even if you think it's off or that someone can't see you.

He should have batting practice at the appropriate time. Chicken chokin' is supposed to be in private. I just hope for the women's sake that he didn't have a dishonorable discharge. ;)

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin is suspended by The New Yorker for masturbating during an 'election simulation' Zoom call and claims 'he thought no one could see me'

Jeffrey Toobin, 60, has been suspended by the New Yorker magazine after he exposed himself during a work Zoom call last week
He was on the video call with staffers from the New Yorker magazine and WNYC radio at the time
Has also taken leave of absence from CNN for whom he works as a legal analyst
Toobin has since apologized to his family and co-workers, calling the incident an 'embarrassingly stupid mistake'
He said he believed he was off-camera and on mute at the time
Toobin made an appearance on CNN on Saturday where he is a chief legal analyst for the network
CNN has since said that Toobin had asked for some personal time off

The New Yorker magazine has suspended longtime writer Jeffrey Toobin while taking a leave of absence from CNN for whom he works on-air as a legal analyst after exposing himself during a work Zoom call.

The 60-year-old, who has written for the New Yorker for 25 years, is said to have exposed himself while on a video call with staffers from the magazine and New York public radio station WNYC last week.

Toobin apologized in a statement to Vice, saying he thought he had turned his camera off at the time of the incident.

'I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers,' he said.

'I believed I was not visible on Zoom. I thought no one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video. I apologize to my wife, family, friends and co-workers.'

Vice initially reported that that the incident involved the exposure of Toobin's 'd***' but it has since updated its story to state that he was allegedly masturbating.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are not completely clear however two people who were on the call have told Motherboard they witnessed Toobin masturbating.

The pair, who did not give their names, said that the incident happened after a break in the call.

Toobin apparently seemed to be on a separate call and when the break was over could allegedly be seen touching his penis. Toobin then left the call before logging back in shortly afterwards seemingly unaware at what others had just witnessed.

It is also not clear how many staffers were on the video call at the time.

A spokesperson for the New Yorker said Toobin had been suspended pending an investigation into the incident.

Toobin, who regularly uses Twitter, has not tweeted since October 13.

New Yorker Suspends Jeffrey Toobin for Exposing Himself on Zoom

The New Yorker suspended reporter Jeffrey Toobin for exposing himself during a Zoom call last week with New Yorker and WNYC radio members, sources tell VICE.

Natalie Raabe, a press representative for the New Yorker, confirmed Toobin has been suspended but did not explicitly state the reason behind the decision.

“Jeffrey Toobin has been suspended while we investigate the matter,” Raabe said.

However, Toobin seemingly confirmed that exposing himself was the motivation behind the suspension, though he claimed it was merely an accident.

“I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera. I apologize to my wife, family, friends, and co-workers,” he told Motherboard in a statement.

VICE further reports: “Both people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely, noted that it was unclear how much each individual person on the call saw, but both of the people we spoke to said that they saw Toobin jerking off.”

Toobin is also the chief legal analyst for CNN and reportedly appeared on the network Saturday. CNN has not commented on the matter.

Considering Toobin was a CNN employee, I'm assuming there were tweezers involved??

And as well, very likely also a gay porno magazine spread open at his feet.
You know, seeing as he is a CNN employee and all. ;)--Tyr

Pretty horrible. I'm going to assume he wasn't being a Matt Lauer or Harvey Weinstein and feel pity for him. It's something we all do. I don't care if you're a nun. It's a natural human behavior. But to do it during a breakout session of a zoom call doesn't make sense. I can't fathom how you forget your camera is on during a call and decide to whip it out. I think more will come out, but I hope he just innocently made a mistake, unfortunately one where his career is likely over.

I agree. It was likely just the dummy truly making a horrible mistake. But how does the company ever see him the same, or how does he face certain people again? A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. But a man can wait until he hits another room, disconnects his camera - maybe put something over the camera? Mine has what they call a privacy tab, that folds down and blocks the camera. Power down the computer, disconnect the Cat 5 cable - do SOMETHING other than in front of your camera, as you're on a Zoom call or "think" you turned it off. The stupidity here is mind boggling.

Like the folks who screw up and post public nudity or messages, that were actually intended to be sent via direct message on Twitter. Ummmm, maybe if you didn't put it on Twitter to begin with, then you won't make this mistake.

Or others that take nudes and keep them in some "cloud" that is then ultimately hacked. Now the world sees you butt nekkid. But why on your device anyway? Why not deleted and/or moved somewhere if you just had to take those pictures? It doesn't take a whole lotta thinking or to be a genius to NOT post your own embarrassing photos or videos for the world to see.

And it's an entirely different world of stupid when someone purposely connects to the internet - with a camera - and drops drawer - and then does his business. Accident or not, just truly mind boggling stupid, IMO.

In case, really, it was an accident, how to avoid problem in future:

Here's How to Avoid Accidentally Showing Your Genitals to Your Colleagues on Zoom

It’s happened to the best of us during this period of extended working from home: You’re minding your own business when suddenly a Zoom room full of your colleagues and/or business partners gets a non-consensual eyeful of unsecured loin. Accident or not, that’s really fucked up. It’s even possible that the incident could lead to professional or personal consequences.

We here at Gizmodo have been discussing this very same problem for no reason in particular at all or anything, why do you ask? And we’ve come up with some tips on how to avoid using Zoom to sexually harass every single person you work with. Please read and consider:

Consider avoiding having your junk out in the first place
Yes, this one is a little out of left field, but hear me out. You can’t expose your genitals to a room full of colleagues—some of whom you may have known and respected for decades!—if you take steps to ensure your genitals aren’t visible to anyone at all.

Clothing designers have known the risks of accidental genital exposure for years, and they’ve designed several innovative technologies to prevent it from happening. For example, they’ve invented pants, which are a sort of leg tube system that adjoins at the top and typically shield the crotch from visibility. They might set you back a bit; expect to pay at least $20 for a good set of pants. The good news is you can buy them pretty much anywhere. (You should probably own several, as the pants system isn’t necessarily foolproof with extended wear and tear.) With properly sized pants secured to your waist, your coworkers won’t be able to see your genitals no matter what you do, other than taking off your pants.

So he was gonna yankee his doodle until he was dandy - while still connected, and just listening in but without putting out his own video/sound? But then of course that didn't pan out and they watched instead? Unbelievable. EVEN IF his plan worked and workmates never saw him, he was STILL going to play a game of five against one.

Remember that word “Exhibitionist”? I think that we have here is a seriously sick form of that.

Unfortunately, even as a child, I recall a friend telling us how a guy stopped a car and called her over to see him . And when I was around 15, while my bestie and I waited for a bus to school, a guy in a second floor window showed us his shortcomings, also in action, so to speak. Clearly intended for us, as no one else was standing at the stop but us. I’m sure many women have some version of these experiences. So, on reflection, this does not really shock me.

What is frightening about it all, IMO, especially to women, is the apparent total lack of control these guys exhibit. But I may not be even touching the surface of [I]why men do this publicly. Maybe other men are best able to understand it. Was there a woman on that call that he was fantasizing about? Or is he just what we simply call a “perv”?

In any event, the article points out the more pressing issue- why are journalists pre-gaming the election?

In any event, the article points out the more pressing issue- why are journalists pre-gaming the election?

That is a big point. Why does CNN think that they need to do a war game of the American election? The unbelievable HUBRIS of those elitist twits is galling.

In CNN’s case, my guess is that they are really plotting “how do we stop the Republicans from winning the election?” I’m sure they feel that any election where Republicans win, and especially Donald Trump, the only explanation is cheating. So they are planning ways to claim cheating and encourage rioting in the streets if the election doesn’t go their way.

By the way, I guess this Jeffrey Toobin twit must really, really enjoy doing election war games.

So if you work at CNN and are on some video call in the future that includes Jeffrey Toobin, do you start wondering what Toobin is doing with his hands, if they aren’t on-screen? What if he doesn’t have his video on, do you wonder why? If he pauses while saying something, are you thinking you know why? I think they all will...

I wondered that from the beginning. Why else while online? Perhaps he was caught, but was having fun with some ladies, a sick form of hitting on them or sumthin? I dunno, can't explain such behavior. Making such colossal mistakes doesn't completely add up. Then again, wouldn't be the first leftist perverted idiot. One mistake is huge enough, but he made one after another after another. Protection on top of protection and he killed all layers? First, not doing so at all. Then not doing so while online with work. Don't do so with a camera even connected. Or powered on. Or no privacy tab covering the camera lens. Somehow not disconnected from zoom. Just flagrantly does so, while online, with camera connected to work, no cover on lens, and with a meeting taking place within feet of him? And as of the past decade, not many cameras out there that don't light up when connected and in use. And those that don't are the $10-$30 POS cameras. Anything of any value that actually works with any quality, they all have lights.

Here's mine. a fairly cheap camera but still good quality, and the thing lights up a dark room when connected.

This guy is the idiot who called for shaming others over their actions. My how the tables have turned.
