Some environmentalist would claim it leads to global warming due to excessive carbon dioxide emissions while breathing rapidly.

I would counter that it is an effective form of birth control.

Well, of course, you realize that this will require a cabinet level position and I know just the person that would be perfect as the first Secretary of Universal Oral Sex, a man that is well experienced with the workings of Washington and oral sex.... yep! Former President Clinton...

Ohhhh... I get it! You're equating sex with health-care. Your analogy sucks...It's puerile...It's sophomoric...But I expect no better from some who post here.

But even more sadly, the analogy shows just how long some have been without sex, if they've even had sex...With anyone besides themselves or a convenient barn-yard animal that is.

Tell someone with end stage kidney disease that their condition is of no more significance than a blow-job. Or perhaps a family member who has congestive heart failure or, gods forbid, a stage IV cancer. Perhaps they would enjoy hearing that their medical condition is of as little import as a sex act found amusing by dirty minded adolescents.

Take your straw-man, fold it five ways and jam it firmly up your ass as far as you can reach...Right up there next to your head. Dismissed.

Aren't liberals supposed to be open minded? Isn't offering universal blow jobs a progressive way of thinking? Think of the stress relief and the heart problems that could be eliminated with a little bit of oral satisfaction on a daily basis.

Ye wee puir bairn...All that repressed sexual energy of yours needs to find an outlet. You should go to the nearest leather bar, and there you can let your freak flag fly! I'm sure you can find a kindly leather-bear that will happily fulfill all of those deeply repressed desires. Unless you prefer cruising airport of public park restrooms like some of your other closeted Republican fellow travelers have.

But lets look at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Health care takes priority over the sexual intimacy represented by the blow-job you so desperately crave. Please note also, that "sex" as relegated to physiological needs is for reproductive purposes only. If we're fortunate, you'll have already been rendered sterile. Sex-for-pleasure, as represented by a blow-job, is a need which can be deferred with no harm to the individual. Health problems can be deferred only at risk to the individual. Your equivocation of a blow-job with health-care is a straw-man, and that straw-man seems to be firmly tucked waaaay up your ass, right there next to your head.

scene: a day in the not so distant future
(telephone ringing) "Welcome to the Government Blow Job Center!!" Your call is important to us, please stay on the line and a call center attendant will assist you!"

Music playing for a very long time occasionally interrupted by commercials for Viagra, condoms, penicillin, and offers of group discounts...

Call Center: Government Blow Job Center, may I help you?
Caller: I'd like to schedule a blow job
Call Center: Yes, of course, may I please have your social security number?
Caller: Sure... 123-45-6789
Call Center: Sir, according to our records, you have not been referred by a Primary Care Provider
Caller: You mean a pimp?
Call Center: Sir, that is judgemental and hate filled... you are referring to a government employee and may be in violation of Title 18, Chapter 58, subsection 3, paragraph 2 of the "Uniform Sex Workers Protection Act"!!! You could be fined $500 or be sentenced to 100 hours of community service for derogatory remarks ...
Caller: OK, whatever, about the "primary care provider"???
Call Center: Yes, according to our records, you do not have a referral from your primary care provider...
Caller: He's out of town ... how about a...
Call Center: In that case, we will place you on a waiting list... the most likely time that you can get a blow job will be in 6 months
Caller: SIX MONTHS! But I need a blow job now!
Call Center: I'm sorry sir, but there are people who have been waiting far longer than you and there are only so many mouths to go around! We are trying to catch up after the sex workers went on strike several months ago!
Caller: You know, if your hookers weren't unionized, this wouldn't have happened!!!!
Call Center: SIR! They are "sex workers". May I remind you that, under Title 18, Chapter 58, subsection 3, paragraph 23, of the "Uniform Sex Workers Protection Act" you may be fined $500 or be sentenced to 100 hours of community service for derogatory remarks ...
Caller: That does it... I'm going to get a blow job from my wife!
Call Center: Unless your wife is a certified licensed government sex worker, she may be guilty of violating Title 18, Chapter 58, subsection 3, paragraph 5 of the "Uniform Sex Workers Protection Act".
Caller: OK, OK!!! I'll just use the vacuum cleaner then!
Call Center: Sir, unless you are using a certified government licensed sexual stimulation device, you may be guilty of violation Title 18, Chapter 58, subsection 3, paragraph 89 of the "Uniform Sex Workers Protection Act"!!! We will be sending the FBI over to your home immediately!!!!

What is YOUR solution to the problem Stephanie? Let them die? Let them NOT have access to any healthcare at all?

And are you really implying that the 45,000,000 million people that do not have healthcare are people THAT DO NOT WORK?

wake up girl!

I am not a big fan of Universal Health Care, but I do recognize that we have a huge problem with our available health Care system and SOMETHING needs to be done.

What good is saving the child that was going to be aborted if you kill the mother or child a few years down the road because you refused them access to good, affordable healthcare?

I don't think we should provide a Universal Health Care Plan UNTIL we figure out and fix the problems within the Health care system that is making costs go up, up , up......and if we fix those things then Universal Health care may not be needed....

But I certainly am not against the program because I am SELFISH and don't want to share my money with someone in NEED....or someone that might have eaten bad foods for them because they could NOT AFFORD to eat well....and have gotten sick.

JD we talked about that 45mil number in another thread. most of them were illegals, some were ppl that it hadnb't kicked in yet cause they just started a job and some were even ppl that just didn't wanna have it so that they could have the money in their wallet.
Then why has it increased 5 million people in just 5 years? We don't have 45 million people unemployed or inbetween jobs and the healthcare is not effected yet. The explanation in the other thread Monkey, still does not solve the problem that I have had and others have had, like paying the Cobra costs for health insurance when you have lost a job, try $650 a month for my husband and I to carry health insurance, WHEN YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED....with very little money coming in.... and we would be considered middle class to upper middle class....you add the $650 to a $1500 a month mortgage payment for a tiny home in the Northeast, let alone your other Bills and what savings one might have than can be gotten to, evaporates quickly and one MUST make the choice between NOT carrying healthcare or NOT paying their mortgage....

Would people choose not to carry health care insurance if it were affordable? maybe in their 20's but outside of that, I seriously doubt it, especially if you own a home and don't want a medical situation to bankrupt you and take your home away....

Something is WRONG with our healthcare system, it has had double digit YEARLY increases in cost for a near decade while our income and the cost of living for the same period is less than 3% a year....

I am not a fan of a government run healthcare program. But I don't believe we should give employers that are funding a great deal of our healthcare costs now for the people that do have coverage, get this cash cow gift from our government, by taking it over...

And it turns out that our federal government RIGHT NOW, pays for 40% of the cost of healthcare in the USA.....

If you don't want government to help, then take the tax break AWAY from your employer that is offering you healthcare....guess what? Your employer would probably not offer it anymore TO YOU, then you will be paying $650 a month for every 2 people in your household too....and maybe you could afford that, but most people in our country, could not.

Why does the government come in and help some like you and me now, that have their coverage through their jobs and not others that want to buy it individually in the same manner as businesses?

Again, something is wrong with our healthcare system, too many hands in the kettle, or malpractice costs, or increased costs from the uninsured making it to the emergency room, or an unorganized and inefficient Billing system, or just plain greed, but whatever it is, is making more and more people, ending up not having insurance for their healthcare or affordable access to the health care itself.

Unlike other Dems, I don't want the government running it like in other countries where they end up making your own medical decisions for you and they are letting people die based on a statistic....that scares the Pajesus out of me....

We need Healthcare reforms also, BEFORE the gvt comes in with any kind of assistance for us, BECAUSE this will bankrupt us if we don't... fix the system or we will be in a huge financial trouble.

Everyone deserves to have the ability to be able to afford Healthcare...it is a human necessity, such as food. Making it where only the well to do can afford it, is inhumane imo!

Our Gvt is helping YOU right now by giving your company a tax break on your coverage....just a reminder of that....why is it okay for them to do that for you and not others?

There are so many things that have to be discussed and analyzed before ANYTHING should be done, but SOMETHING does need to be done is where I stand on the issue.

i agree that the companies need reformed.

the gov would tax the crap out of us for it anywyas, so i should pay for the guy that doesn't have a job? and then when this kicks in, he doesn't need a job for insurance, sho why should he even try then? does that mena i get to stop working also? is that 40% the gov pays for medicare anyways? which we pay for with our taxes already. and thanks to ppl that sue and lawyers that puch for suing, there goes our prices.

Medical malpractice is less than 2% of the cost of healthcare is what I have read.... Not that I don't think it is a problem and that some people and some lawyers don't take advantage of it....but the fact is that there are 16 times more people that have been injured through malpractice that never seek compensation.

I wasn't blaming one person. Trial lawyers are a very powerful lobby group. $400 Johnny was mentioned because he is their poster boy. And goodbye to any hopes of tort reform if his oily hide should (shudder) be elected.

Your 2% figure sounds very low to me, but either way, direct costs are far from the whole story. Providers have to charge lots of bucks to cover possible future law suits. And not to mention the amount of doctors who are no longer willing to do risky procedures for fear of lawsuits. Obstetrics is a prime example.

You don't need insurance now to go to the doctor. You will not be turned away because of that. Hospitals have to see you. Do that majority of Americans want to sit and wait for the care at clinics and walk in centers?? No, but they can.

Does good health insurance cost a lot of money? Yes. Should you need to choose between your house payment and you medical care? No. But you should be willing to not have a cell phone, plasma tv, and all the things we "need" for our daily lives before you do not have insurance. How many of the 45 million fall into the category I just described? I would wager more than a few.

Why is there a "middle man" in Health Care cashing in his profits?

You are wrong about seeing a Doctor I think....they always ask how you are going to be paying for it BEFORE they will even make an appointment, if you don't have the means to pay them then they refer you to the emergency rooms....at least in the few states that I have lived in.

On the North East Coast, a Doctor's visit, without Insurance is $150-$200 a pop, and then any tests they run are all extra, I spent 2 days in the hospital for a minor surgery, 10 years ago, and the Bill back then was $12,000
...2 days, a surgery that was less than 2 hours, $12, 000 BUCKS! Today, that same minor surgery would be at least $20,000, for just 2 days in the hospital, in a shared room.

My insurance company refused to pay the bill...that is another story and hell that I had to go through on top of the surgery itself....finally, we got help from the State of Florida's Insurance commisioner to make the Insurance company pay the Bill....

5 years later when we went to buy our house, we found out we couldn'tget a loan because the Hospital reported us to the credit bureau for not paying the hospital bill that the Insurance was SUPPOSE to cover...at that time we were no longer in Florida, so we had to spend enormous amounts of monies on long distance phone calls, and federal express packages, and endless time of missed work and that income in order to once again, try to get the whole thing cleared up and get the Insurance company to pay the bill, contacted the insurance commisioner again and all of that crapola.

Finally, with alot of man power we got the whole thing cleared up and were GREATFUL that the owners of the house we were buying had time to spare, but the loan rate that we had locked in to for a short period had expired, and the rates went UP, so now we were faced with a higher mortgage payment for the next 30 years unless WE PAYED out of our own pocket to refinance somewhere down the line...

Well through this whole mess, the hospitol was a disgrace in their billing area...I don't even want to get in to the illegitimate things I was billed for, let alone the legitimate things like $12.00 for 2 aspirin....

I am telling ya, from the bottom of my heart, that SOMETHING is WRONG with our insurance/health care system, and it ain't a minor thing!

I don't want my taxes going up to pay for our own healthcare now...my hubby has a job that has insurance, with a low payment of $200 a month now for our share....

after paying the $650 a month for it for nearly a year, the $200 a month seems like heaven! If our taxes are going to go up and my husband's company no longer has to compensate him with health insurance and we have to pay for it ourselves with higher taxes,

then I think the Company should give the hubby a raise for the amount of money they were paying for it....if that isn't done, which is likely, then the Companies out there that have been providing insurance as part of an employees compensation package, will get a huge cash cow gift from the federal gvt, which is in turn a cash cow from us....

I don't think Hillary's plan or anyone's plan will work, unless we look at the whole picture and make some revisions to the billing system which is estimated to be 25% of unnecessary healthcare costs, until we look at the way malpractice/ insurance is handled, we need to consider the impact of the uninsured on our own health care costs,

and we have to consider reviewing what we pay for Doctor's services and an aspirin while in the hospital, and untill we even look at the incredible profits the health insurance companies make....which over the last handful plus of years has been +65% in profits over and above what other insurance industry makes, like auto insurance, or home owner's insurance companies.

It has to make one wonder why we go through insurance companies in the first place?

There are people out there that are much smarter than me that need to figure this mess out so that we can cut our healthcare costs, before I would ever agree to any more assistance from the federal government. I believe it will be the death of us....cost way too much if the system isn't corrected and this trend of double digit increases in the hike of healthcare costs each year is curbed.

Speaking from experience....my wife works with children who get free pre-school. The parents make so little money that they get this free! They also get free medical in the state of Indiana. But in virtually every home, there is a big screen tv, a cell phone, at least one car. I did not want to say that anyone here was like that, and I hope I did not oppend, that was not my intent.
I agree that the system is broke. But the fix is not to mandate it through the government. It doesnt work in the UK. I should know, I lived there for 6 years and one of my sons was born in a British hospital. We do need to do something about the medical insurance rates, but I do not have a good answer.
On a very selfish note. I love the fact that I don't have to worry about it. I have great, no cost medical coverage. But I have had to give 19 years to the Air Force to get it.

Yes, and that is our tax money paying for that, for you, and for all people that work for the government in any manner, civil service or enlisted etc.

My father was in the usaf for 22 years and he and my mother have their healthcare covered for life too. Thank God that they have this it has kept them in good shape, during their retirement.

I pay taxes too. So you are not the only person paying for my medical care. At least I give something back to you and all the others paying for it. I don't sit with my hand out and say where is mine?

I don't sit with my hand out and say where is mine?and you would never have to stick your hand out either, you are given it.... why? because the gvt feels it is a good benefit to provide for you....

and i was not putting you down for it, i benefitted from it the 18 years of it, wile living with my parents and they are benefitting now from it, which i am greatful for.

and yes, you pay taxes, and most of the people without healthcare work and pay taxes...they are not asking for a handout if that is what you are implying? those that need handouts or the indigent get their healthcare for free already, right now....don't they? it is the lower middle and middle class that are in a bind, not those with nothing, the poorest?

but the fact is that you and the millions of other gvt employees get their healtcare paid by OUR taxes, don't they? is that a lie?

scene: a day in the not so distant future

We will be sending the FBI over to your home immediately!!!!

read my previous response to Monkey and to answer your question, healthcare, going to the doctor for a broken arm or the flu was affordable at one time in America....yes, you didn't need insurance to go to the doctor or even have surgery.... now it is cost prohibitive.

not true just go to the local emergency room...by law they have to see you

So? It's ok with you...that you and I will pay for all the out of work people" BY CHOICE"...it's OK with you that we pay for their destructive health activities..............Right..??

Cause you do know where all the money for all that FREE HEALTHCARE, is gonna come from.........RIGHT??

It sure ain't gonna come from the Federal Government....Unless they just go out and start printing.......Free MONEY...

Hell No........It's coming from people like you and me..........you do realize this......RIGHT??

AND YOU'RE OK WITH THIS?? RIGHT??

The hallmark of any civilized society is in how it provides for those less fortunate of its citizens. We can either leave the some 45 million in America who are uninsured, a great many of whom DO work at jobs which don't provide health-care coverage that they can afford, and continue to pay the hidden tax for their health-care in the form of higher insurance premiums...higher deductibles...fewer services. Or, We can provide a basic national health-care plan accessible and affordable to all. The costs of caring for the uninsured are already "...coming from people like you and me...". You do realize this...Right? And you're OK with this?? Right??

And since you're a Christian, let me refer you to Matthew 25: 34-40

34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

actually, from what I have heard recently, there is such a booth....it's in a bathroom at the Minneapolis airport....you tap your foot or something.......and if you go on the right day, it might even be the government that takes care of you......

Bully... you and liberals misunderstand something about Christian doctrine. Yes, God commands us to feed the poor, clothe the naked and so forth, but here's the important part that you either neglect or fail to understand.... He gives us free will and we have a choice to obey Him.

What you and you liberal friends want is to coerce everyone into these programs. In other words... no free choice. Certainly, I believe that everyone should give to charity to the amount that they can afford, but I also believe that it should not be mandated by the government. I don't understand why a person who has several children to raise and has a modest income should be forced to "give" to a government "charity" through taxation. I believe that, if tax rates went down, people would give more to charity, not less.

That is how conservatives and liberals differ. Conservatives are, to borrow a phrase, "pro choice" when it comes to allowing others to make decisions about their lives, their property and so forth. Liberals are in favor of a dictatorship of the proletariat, it seems. Liberals seem to believe that others' life and property isn't theirs , but the State's.
