Brazil saw an unprecedented period of prosperity from 1964 to 1985 when it was ruled by the Military Junta. Marshal Humberto Castelo Branco forced Joao Goulart from power in a military coup. Once Goulart was elected President in 1961, he took his orders directly from Nikita Khrushchev and Fidel Castro. The Brazilian military noticed that Marxism took root under the care of Getulio Vargas as a political strongman. The Military Junta decided to rule Brazil under a rotating list of military officers. They ran the country with military rigor. They used profitability as the criteria to regulate business. That time frame is known as The Brazilian Miracle. As an added bonus there was a phenomenon known as "disappearing Communists". Known Communists just magically vanished from the face of the Earth, never to be seen nor heard from again.
