I agree and disagree entirely with Mitch on this one. Hell, it was Trump's idea and the people need it. Not sure why he's claiming socialism? Trust me, they will have MORE than enough of that to offer before long.

Lindsey Graham Breaks with Mitch McConnell: $2,000 Checks for Struggling Families ‘Is Not Socialism’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared to break with Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) after the majority leader dismissed $2,000 checks to American families as “socialism for rich people,” with the South Carolina Republican contending it is “necessary in the times in which we live” and calling for a standalone vote.

“With all due respect to my Republican colleagues, a $2k direct payment for individuals and families who are struggling is not socialism. In my view it is necessary in the times in which we live,” Graham said on Friday, noting that direct payments “may not be most efficient way to help people in need but, given the situation we face are extremely necessary.”

“Going from $600 to $2,000 doesn’t make you a socialist,” Graham continued, urging President Trump to continue to fight for the American people and insisting on a “standalone vote”:

I'm not going to say if it's socialism or not but a blanket $2000 out the door is wasteful and unneeded. The first $1200 set a bad precedent.

Re-read the OP. trump's idea... populism.

Trump put this on the political radar, endangering the Georgia Senate races. Nice job Donny. Thankfully he didn't turn flaky sooner.

I kinda added that it in there only to clarify that this wasn't a grandiose idea that emanated from Democrats.

Myself, I supported it - as so many people are out of work due to no fault of their own, and due to government mandates. I think they should have LONG ago continued the smaller checks or did something. So now I look at the $600 as far behind and won't do a helluva lot. So I supported more to help the people out there that have no income and no way to pay rent or get food - for longer than it should have been.

It just throws billions out there with no rhyme or reason. People need help no question but earlier this year our family of 5 got all the money allotted to us with zero loss in income or security. We're certainly not the only ones in that category and there are countless groups of people who didn't need to a check for no reason. Plus we're backstopping unemployment on the one hand and giving out PPP loans on the other. There should be reasons and discussion about appropriate policy but I think we're long past that.

I for one think twice when bernie and trump are on the same side.

That I agree with.

I think the people need the money - the right people, the people I spoke of. And folks that were getting the extra unemployment shouldn't have been also capitalizing on the fed relief money. Nor the stupid plan to give out money to small businesses, no questions, and look harder for abuse afterwards? And our household got zilch, nada, nothing, and I know others less deserving that did get money and I don't know how.

But wherever money is introduced, there will be abuse. And they did a horrible job in that department, no doubt and no argument from me.

But I would have liked to see the deserving and suffering folks have gotten relief money. And also small businesses aka the mom and pops, so that they got their loans and were able to remain open or open back up and serve customers & help get their employees some income.

And with those loans, so many unqualified ran out and took the money, and some millions and millions. Then I see that like NHL teams and similar larger companies took advantage and then gave the money back when outed. I know there was always gonna be some abuse, but the fact is they opened those doors even wider.
