President Ahmadinejad addresses the parliament on Iran's fourth development plans in Tehran, September 17, 2007.

In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.

The Iranian mission to the U.N. made the request to the New York City Police Department and the Secret Service, which will jointly oversee security during the leader's two-day visit. Mr. Ahmadinejad is scheduled to arrive September 24 to speak to the U.N. General Assembly as the Security Council decides whether to increase sanctions against his country for its uranium enrichment program.

Mr. Kelly said the NYPD and Secret Service were in discussions with the Iranian Mission about the logistics for the possible visit, and whether it will take place at all. He said that for safety reasons related to ongoing construction at ground zero Mr. Ahmadinejad would not be allowed to descend into the pit.

"There has been some interest expressed in his visiting the area," Mr. Kelly said. "It's something that we are prepared to handle if in fact it does happen."

Mr. Kelly said Mr. Ahmadinejad had not indicated why he wants to visit the site of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Several presidential candidates quickly condemned the proposed visit.

Why shouldn't he visit ground zero?

I think we should show him ground zero via the tip of an ICBM. :pee:Ahmadinejad.

Whats the big deal??? The last time I checked Tehran wasn't behind the 9/11 attacks...

If justice were alive in this world we would be escorting him to a jail cell.

Because his nation is on the terror list. I see no reason whatsoever why he would need to visit the site. He should be securely escorted to the UN, and securely back to his plane - nothing more.

IIRC, two of the Americans who were Iranian hostages have identified him as one of their captors.

They haven't attacked the U.S. directly since November of 1979. Way back when you weren't even a sparkle in you parents eyes.

I see no reason why you should visit any of the places you visit either. What's the big deal? It's not as if he's gathering info for a future strike. You can't really blow-up ground zero any more than it's already been done. You guys are over reacting because you think since Iran has been declared our "enemy" that we should sever all ties and never acknowledge them again. That's the kind of thinking that got us into Iraq! We need good relations with Iran, not redneck tactics and more agression.

So then if I request to be escorted around to various places within Iran, he should comply?

He's not a citizen, his country is on the terror watch list, he is being monitored by the UN... He has no right to go anywhere other than the UN and back to his plane while in the USA.

And rightfully so. Why should taxpayers have to foot the bill for a security detail for him?

On top of what everyone else has said, he has called for the elimination of Israel, and death to Americans. I don't even think he should be allowed to step foot on American soil. Get the damn UN out of America.

And I am completely happy not having any relations with Iran. Why do we need good relations like you say? What do they have? Are you saying we may want to get......oil from them?

They are our enemy and should be. I personally would love to put a few GBU-10's on an F-15e and let the pilots do their thing all over that country.

You hagbard are :lame2:

Yes they are an enemy. If you have been to Iraq or ask anyone who has. There have been Iranians that cross the border into Iraq. attack US and Allied troops the sneak back across the border into Iran. SO don't give me that horse shit. Besides you want some crazy ass dictator to have Nukes???? Thats just fucking brilliant!!! And I guarantee that if we pull out of Iraq now.

Here are the possibilities I see.

#1) Iran invades Iraq and takes it over. They do have a decent force. Nothing compared to ours in the way of Navy but hey we don't need to have to go back to Iraq and liberate it again. Then would they go after Kuwait also??? Whats to stop them from trying to be like Gaydolph Shitler and take over the world?? Then we have WW3???? Just food for thought.

You really think a nuclear strike wont blow up ground zero and everything around it even more?

Even Hillary agrees:

Senator Hillary Clinton released the following statement:

"It is unacceptable for Iranian President Ahmadinejad, who refuses to renounce and end his own country's support of terrorism, to visit the site of the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil in our nation's history."

And Giuliani:

Mayor Rudy Giuliani released the following statement on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:

"Under no circumstances should the NYPD or any other American authority assist President Ahmadinejad in visiting Ground Zero. This is a man who has made threats against America and Israel, is harboring bin Laden's son and other al-Qaeda leaders, is shipping arms to Iraqi insurgents and is pursuing the development of nuclear weapons. Assisting Ahmadinejad in touring Ground Zero - hallowed ground for all Americans - is outrageous."

Oh really? Is that why Amadinijad is going to ground zero? Is he going to scribble down the coordinates on a post it so that the Iranian "nuke" can be delivered there on a donkey's back? You're sad.

All this symbolic bullsh*t amounts to a hill of beans when you realize that our soldiers are in a war zone dying and they don't have to be. With a stroke of a pen congress could bring them home. Yet you all are going crosseyed getting worked up about that little monkey visiting ground zero. I'd laugh, but it's just too sad.

This is becoming quite a theme for you. It's stupid to care about "this" while our soldiers are dying in Iraq. It's wrong to worry about "that" while they are dying in Iraq. Perhaps we should close all our schools and hospitals and courthouses, too. Oh, and let's stop all visits to loved one's graves in Arlington cemetary for sure. I mean, it's all dumb to concern ourselves with anything while we're in Iraq.

I think that someone as on fire about our soldiers' safety as you appear to be (and I'm seriously glad that you are) should enlist and go help them out.
