View Full Version : .......What If You’re Caught in a Riot While Driving?

Imagine you’re driving your car through the city on a typical day. You take a turn, and suddenly find yourself surrounded by a rioting mass of protesters.
Would you be able to escape them safely? Riots are much more dangerous than many people think.
If you find yourself surrounded by a mob of angry people, you are not safe, even if you are not the main focus of the riot.
https://urbansurvivalsite.com/wp-content/uploads/what-to-do-if-youre-caught-in-a-riot-while-driving-pin-2.jpg?ezimgfmt=rs:580x1160/rscb9/ng:webp/ngcb9
The good news is that if you are in your car during the riot, then you also have a good method of escape because you have a physical barricade between you and them.
....Nonetheless, this does not mean you are safe just because you are in your vehicle. There’s nothing rioters love more than hijacking or overturning vehicles.
This means there is a very strong possibility that the rioters may forcefully open your doors, drag you out, beat you up, and steal your car with everything–or everyone–in it.
**So what can you do to escape a riot in your vehicle? Let’s find out.

Quick thread bump:
From comments:
"Rioting is illegal why do I have to bow down to illegal activities. If I were attacked while in a riot I would run people over if it was necessary to get out of harms way. With the Socialist Democrats on the Left wanting to do everything illegal and back illegal aliens while ignoring and destroying the Constitution, why can’t I go into a bank and ask for all their money?
Yes this is illegal but it seems that the left can back and do everything illegally and nothing happens. So Mr. Banker give me all your money, who cares if it is illegal."
"When the odds are not in your favor,...fight like your life depended on it .then go to confession....walk out a free live man."
"But the author says you mustn’t run them over, much better to wind up being dragged out of your car and being beaten till your brain dead. You know what the author would do if confronted with such a mob-cry.
I’d gun the engine. The first two or three down and the mob would flee. They have good sense unlike the author..."

Don't care what anybody reccomends .... if they are threatening me. DAY GONNA GETS RUNNED OBER. If a cop see's me, and how old I am...anyone attacking me should be arrested for ASSAULT ON A SENIOR. There are laws to that effect.
If they want me to be arrested. FINE. At least I won't be on a SLAB with a TOE TAG.
I've been through enough...a few more idiots in my life won't make a difference.
Just hope I have enough gas to get away.

Good info in the article but the advice about weapons is not a universal fit though; keeping an accessible firearm and ammo in your car is a serious crime in many states. So the first thing you should do is know the law for carrying a gun and then for the topic of this thread, choose to live in a state where you have a fighting chance. Pennsylvania is a good example, it requires a permit to have a loaded gun in your car but extends castle doctrine to the vehicle you are in . . . Anyone who tries to force entry and extract anyone from a vehicle is subject to lethal force.
Even in a relatively gun-friendly state like PA there are idiosyncrasies in the law. Even with a "License to Carry Firearms" (LTC), one can not keep a loaded long gun in your vehicle (vestige of anti-poaching / road hunting laws).

IMO...No matter what "state" one lives in...When it comes to your life...or "theirs".... (attackers)...Crazy Leftist (Liberal) rules do not apply...
Die by obeying "their" rules or live using natural survival instinct...anyone with a TV or computer knows what rioting ..dangerous roaches can do to an innocent person just passing through & Not wanting to hurt anyone...if rioters wanna get stupid...that is their option...just like the victim has options by wanting to live.

I get that and the whole "judged by twelve instead of carried by six" thing but one should take the advice and be informed about possible / planned actions, because for riots, the best action plan is avoidance.
My point is, carrying a gun in your car (in conflict with law) just in case the .000001% happens, isn't a good plan. More likely you roll through a stop sign and a cop just doing his job upends your life; no cop will want to hear any explanation about why you have loaded gun, about how you're really a "law-abiding" citizen wanting to protect themselves just in case a riot breaks out.

I had to heavily redact this post to prevent myself from posting what I really wanted to call this bunch of barbarians, but since it is Lent, I will not call Black Lives Matter or Antifa what they really are. Which is a compliment, as far as I'm concerned - KM
An old bumper sticker from the 70s, "There is nothing more frightening than ignorance in action"... well move aside Count Dracula, BLM and Antifa are the kings of horror now!
I'm beyond sick and tired of having to see these snowflakes burning down buildings, disrespecting our flag, and expecting us to collectively KISS THEIR ASSES and apologize for being born white. And I will wager that there are tens of millions of us who feel the same way I do.
What is Black Lives Matter going to do about it? Kill all 75 to 80 million of us? What's Stacey Abrams going to do, haul her big fat Marxist ass into a court to cancel culture our votes?
In the First Amendment, there is the right for people to petition the government for the redress of grievances. If BLM were really serious about fixing the race problem in this country, they could have come up with a list of legislation that they felt would address race issues in this country, had their members and supporters contact their Congressmen and Senators and tell them, vote for these or we won't vote for you.
That is a legitimate exercise of power. Note how no one would have burnt a building down, marched in the streets or what not. And you know what? That legislation would have likely been passed.
But no, BLM and Antifa are about Marxism and nothing but Marxism.

Exactly.
BLM is marxism hiding under the cloak/banner of racial equality.
And marxism is the avowed enemy of this nation..
Yet socialist /liberal media is firm allies with BLM- THUS THEY TOO ARE AVOWED ENEMIES OF THIS NATION.
And yes, in reality it truly is just that damn simple.--Tyr

I have a 1 ton PU truck and I'm stepping on the gas. Not to hurt anyone, mind you. To extract myself from a life-threatening situation :halo9:. When I am out and about I usually have a 3 years old with me so I just don't care who gets hurt as long as he and I don't. The police can come find me at my house.
Situationally here, we don't act like that. Even the pittance of a disturbance they called a "riot" last year by agitators hiding among the black protestors got shut down by the police, the militia and some little old Mexican ladies with brooms.
Because of our gun laws, people are not likely to pull that kind of a stunt. You will get shot. Regardless the misinformation put out by the anti-gun crowd, the knowledge that everybody and their brother probably has a gun keeps incidents like this to a minimum. Not to mention, the police here will shoot you just as quick. This not a good place to be a bad guy outside your hood.

**I guess your talking about States that dont allow "any" Guns?
`There are states that don't allow certain types of guns
Most states have restrictions on guns for felons
**In the US no state has a complete ban on firearms as protected as a right by the 2nd Amendment
Certain bans on handguns have been attempted with weak results that have been reversed in the Supreme Court`
I have no problem carrying...legal "CC"....and If one doesn't have "CC" one is still allowed to have a "approved" gun `in their car` as long as it is on the front seat (open view) passenger side...and...as long as one is in the car...
Had CC for 0ver 16 years...Thank God I Never had a Problem....Good insurance is always good to have...
Oh Yeah...I have a 4-wheel drive Jeep too! :)

Try living in NYC. Or like me when I drove into the city daily for years, parked in garage and of course drove home.
By me, you can get a gun or carry permit much easier, but the odds of a riot by me are like slim. If there's gonna be one it's gonna be in NYC. And with the entire city being a huge grid, that's why we get "gridlock". And if you get stuck, you really get stuck! And if a riot or even just bad traffic, you're in a bit of a pickle.
But in riots they sometimes like to fuck with cars for no reason. And it's difficult due to pure numbers. 500 people attack your car when you're stuck, and you are downright fu**ED.
In a perfect scenario, for me, I have a holster mount in the vehicle for quick and easy access. No need for killing or pointing - sometimes just showing the ownership does wonders!! And really does wonders if someone is attacking you and you shoot to save your own life. Amazing how a bullet tends to have folks back off a tad.
But back to NYC. - First off, to get the carry, you need to apply via the sheriffs office. Then wait anywhere from 4-6 months up to a year or a more for some. And you would be shocked if you looked p the total amount of owners with a CCW in NYC. And then look up the total population of NYC, keeping in mind also folks that drive or take trains into work. It's crazy.
You own a business and sometimes carry large transactions of money? Because if not, you likely won't be approved for your permit. In NYC, you need to prove to the sheriffs office that you NEED this weapon to carry and justify yourself. And don't think about just making it up, they want more than just your word.
Oh - and it's carried a fee of $340 to apply and when everyone mostly gets denied, it's non-refundable.
---
Ok, rambled again. :thumb: But I would be cool until they stop us for too long. Then I do the slow crawl and slowly push if I must. If my truck is damaged, a window broken or they start kicking it... then I take my weapon and hold pointing perhaps into my center console facing down, but very easy for them to see. Then I start pushing more and getting out of dodge. It's up the THEM if I need to speed up or take protective maneuvers on the road, and it's also 100% up to THEM if I need to use my weapon. I'm not shooting someone over stopping me or even damaging my vehicle. Damage = pushing a little faster to get the hell out of there if I must. Damage = making folks aware I do in fact have a weapon. Bodily harm or somehow opening my vehicle and actually pulling on me or my clothing to get me out? Where there is a mass crowd who will likely kill me? I will shoot to protect my life and to back everyone the F up so I can get out with my life.

**I guess your talking about States that dont allow "any" Guns?
Not really. Even gun "friendly" states have specific laws for guns in cars. Without a permit most require the gun to be in a closed case and the ammo in a separate place. Along with that are laws that say you can only travel with the gun from purchase place or gunsmith for repair and home or from the range and home and no interruptions . . . You can't stop for any reason, to piss, to eat, even get gas.
**In the US no state has a complete ban on firearms as protected as a right by the 2nd Amendment
In the home . . . once you step outside and especially when you get in a car, you'd better know the laws. No matter how far federal courts enforce the 2nd Amendment on the states, states will always have the power to set the laws for manner of carry. The 2nd Amendment is NOT your carry permit!

That is not safe advice for every state. One really needs to know the laws for each state they will be traveling through. I live in PA and often go to North Carolina for family and fishing the OBX. I have the PA permit and I also have a Utah non-resident permit which Delaware honors. I set my GPS for 1 mile short of the Maryland state line and I pull over and unload, empty the mags into the original ammo boxes and lock all that in one box then lock the pistol in another safe. I then reverse the process when I get into Virginia and I'm good to go right into NC.

I'm an Arizona resident. I have concealed carry permit primarily for when I travel to other states. Must know which states honor it.
In Arizona, in a vehicle, any adult person who is not a prohibited possessor may openly carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle whether in a holster, case, compartment, or in plain view. Persons under 21 may openly carry a loaded or unloaded firearm in a vehicle only if it is in plain view, i.e. discernible from the ordinary observation of a person located outside and within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle.

As controversial as firearms are in this Nation, it would be negligent to not know local laws AND the State and local laws where one is traveling. The old axiom "ignorance is no excuse when it comes to the law" applies. You can lose your weapons and end up in some state or local municipality's money mill trying to save your freedom.
