Always watch youtube videos and more about fish tank stuff over past 20 years. Best way to learn and take in data! And owners will find that one problem that every single tank has - algae. And so many different forms. Most are ok and the fish or other critters will even eat it.
I have always pronounced it correctly as - "al - gee" or "AL G" as in the letter. But I have noticed, which annoyed me for many years, some would pronounce it was "AL Gi" - as in a "Gi" that you may see a judo person fighting with it on, the top and bottom with the belt. So you have Gee and Gi. So hard to spell out pronunciation.
Best page to hear both easily, and how I found out that all these dumbasses saying it wrong over the years were actually pronouncing it properly for where they live!

Green slime
But if I say the word I say Al G
I've had the most popular, which is the green slime algae. I then had a purplish/bluish variety algae. And even once I had like a greenish tint IN the water. But once I got my "green killing machines", the green was gone within 48!! But then now, I'm dealing with weird hairs I first noticed on my driftwood. Turns out its black algae, but called "black beard algae". Sounds horrible, but won't harm the fish or environment, the fishies like to eat a little too! Plus, a great source of food for my snails. Nonetheless, using liquid carbon and an increase of CO2, and then take out everything one by one to be cleaned. Then a heavy duty cleaning of the gravel. And then lastly a treatment with some other products and some water change. Now ya know! It's a dang never ending job to own fishies.

I learned it as "al-gee."
Should hope so, unless you were educated in the UK!!
Funny though, as for years I thought whomever these folks were in youtube were just dumbasses! Turns out it was the other way around!!

We could also use AL GEE as POND SCUM or SWAMP CRUD. Either way. A massive CLEANUP is needed.

I think the best pronunciation is Al-jay.
