This is in reference to an email I received, but too lazy to do another upload right now.

It was a tech video about this supposed juice jacking, but was presented by "friendlies" so no damage done in that instance. But it shows exactly why.

So what is this "juice jacking"?

Almost always presented when traveling, and not being aware, and not taking precautions. Ever be in an airport, mall or anywhere in public, and find an open public access place to charge your phone? Or perhaps even an electrical socket in a prominent place?

Using their 'leet skillz', they then penetrate your phone via the charging port and quite shortly get all the info they need. Not just quickly downloading your info - but that - and now also tracking everything you do afterwards! Ok, I gotta find it and upload it...

So after you charge your phone, and as you use it - someone is getting every last keystroke you make. Everything you type to anyone, anywhere you go, bank account info and then some. Literally a keystroke monitor and more. Everywhere you go and all you do on your phone.

I took it serious enough and ordered 4 different types of thumb drives. You plug your cable into this thumb drive, then drive into wherever your charging - and no data exchange is allowed, only power.

I got these few:

C cable to regular USB port: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BS62WMR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
C cable to C charging port - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082WDHS22/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And regular USB to regular USB - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085HJDN5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ok, upload done:

On Planet MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way), juice jacking means a woman who traps a guy, especially a celebrity, by jacking his juice from a discarded condom.

Also read some real stories about that in the past. But much much different, and much more disgusting, and much OT! :puke3:

From what I understand it's only public USB ports that can be hacked. If you use your own charging block in a public outlet you'd be fine.

That is correct!

Your own block or a data blocker also prevents. But even with your own charging block, and then plugging into a device that has the USB hacked... don't trust the entire device IMO!!

Call me over-secure, but I'm less trusting of the world with the things I've seen in the IT world! It would be totally different, but similar. But right now, yes, they are going through the data ports via the USB port on the public device. But if they somehow tie that into the electrical box, and then through your block and then into your USB port where you charge from anyway - I don't trust them.

It IS an easy fix right now, but using the data blocker would entirely eliminate any charging issues in public entirely. And wouldn't surprise me if soon phones will have an option to charge with or without the data port open. :dunno:

I carry a portable charging unit. Then I charge that at public places. Not my phone or tablet.
