It was past time to say goodbye to my wonderful 2004 Mazda 6, served me so well! So I was tempted to buy:

Alas, I settled on shared color and practicality:

I do like the two toned leather:

Very nice! Cops zero in on fire engine red rigs like that, so beware!

Is it AWD or FWD?

AWD. I hesitated on color, alas I'm so sick of black or white. Lol! It's fun to drive, but going from 2004 and 2018, well there's a steep learning curve. Out

Like no key, we'll there's an emergency one to get in door if battery dies, but it's weird. Emergency brake is a button.

Good girl! Always opt for 4x4 when you can. I know you'll very rarely need it where you live, but in that 1-in-5,000 cases you'll thank your lucky stars that you have it. Loose sand, mud, snow, ice... you're covered.

I've never driven an AWD Mazda but I'm sure they did a fine job in R&D. The Japanese are obsessed with it, and Honda is fanatical with it which is why I always opt for a Honda in anything I'm presented a choice in, like ATVs, Lawnmowers, Outboards, etc.

Veronica has an '04 Honda Passport SUV (about the same stance and look as a Nissan Pathfinder) and that thing is a little mountain goat with traction & offroading.

Very nice car! I'm sure it'll take good care of you.

You might want to pick up Sassy & drive it up here so you two can go lure Todd Palin with it. He won't be able to resist the Mazda and 2 chicks wearing fur bikinis.

Good looking car for a good looking lady. It looks really great, that car looks like it’s moving fast while it parked . Enjoy your new ride.

That's how Sharon's Jeep is.

I didn't realize - for over a year - that I didn't have to push the unlock button on the FOB. Just have it in your pocket and as soon as your fingers touch the inside of the door handle on either of the front doors, it unlocks itself.

With that push button emergency brake, hers will automatically engage when you're trying to back up and someone opens the passenger door - it did it yesterday to us when I was backing up and Shar opened the door to see if I was past the mud puddle on her side. It doesn't like open doors while it's in gear.

There's other features that are really fascinating on it too, like auto-driving itself IF there's nicely defined painted fog lines & center lines on the road. And auto-braking if it thinks you're going to rear end someone.

The auto-driving thing is close to being reality. I set the cruise and turned on the system last winter and it drove itself for about 10 seconds before it started bitching at me to put my hands back on the steering wheel. Naturally, being male, I tried to defeat that safety feature, but it KNEW when my hands weren't touching the wheel. It must have heat sensors under the leather, because it knew and I couldn't trick it.

I say auto drive is commonplace in 5 years.

What car was the first pic, the sporty one? Damn, thought you bought a Vette at first! Then I noticed the shorter length, and of course you saying Mazda. :)

Beautiful car!! Best of luck with her, I hope she takes care of you and keeps you safe!!

Went to visit SassyLady yesterday down in Tucson. I got there early, so went to outlet for Sketchers. Found two pairs of sandals, yeah.

Backing out of parking lot, got t-boned on driver's side-both doors.

Both of us same insurer.

Other party found 100% at fault, they haven't accepted that yet.

Since I can't get to shop until next Tuesday, hope they come through and avoid subrogation. No matter though, Tuesday I start to get her fixed.

I haven't been in accident since Bryan was 14, he's 35 now!

My 'new' car. Wah!

SL and I still had a great lunch and got to see a rare occurrence here-rain!

SassyLady

Where the photo of the damage?

Yes, had fun at lunch. The rain was what you'd call a squall. Just got car dirty and drove 10 miles to house and not a drop over here. That's Arizona rain for you. Can be rainy in front yard and sunny in back yard. :dunno:

That sucks, sorry to hear, Kath. I know it sucks when a newer car too.

But stay on top of insurance and get her in ASAP and these days the body shops have them coming out looking like brand new again! Great thing the fault has been addressed already so that it's out of the way and you can get straight to the repair. Nag them about being without a vehicle as well and they will provide you with a rental if possible!

I have rental coverage on policy, though that too will be collected off the other party.

If one must get in an accident, make sure the other guy rear ends you- will always be 100% their fault.

Oh man, sorry Kath. Did the car give you a backup warning that something was approaching?

If one must get in an accident, make sure the other guy rear ends you- will always be 100% their fault.

You got the fault cleared up quickly which is the most important. THE most important thing I can recommend to people is a dashcam! Far too many times the fault is in question, or even if the other person admits it, sometimes the insurance companies will declare it less than 100% fault and make it 50/50 or 70/30.... but with proof via dashcam - that ends all of that discussion instantly. Also, having that same insurance company helped as well!

For the rental, mine covered it but only certain ranges of cars and for set amounts of time. But I'm sure that depends on a million factors, including companies and individual policies.

I have seen schmucks actually hit others from behind, admit it and then deny it to insurance and state that YOU backed into them! It happens!
