He's simply not following the teachings of the catholic church. And why even bend a rule for him - he's a leader and is setting an example. You can't very well be out there supporting abortions & then go off to Rome and get a photo op.

The Vatican Just Denied Joe Biden Communion

The Vatican nixed a plan for Pope Francis to give President Joe Biden Holy Communion while the president is in Europe on Tuesday. While Biden identifies as Catholic and attends Mass, at least one priest has denied him Communion because the president advocates for abortion. The U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will meet on Wednesday to vote on a committee to establish formal rules about who can and cannot receive the Eucharist.

A Vatican source told Catholic News Agency (CNA) that Rome nixed Biden’s attendance at a Tuesday morning Mass. Biden is currently in Europe for several high-profile meetings, and despite outreach from the White House, there is no meeting on the books for June 15.

The White House had originally requested that Biden attend an early-morning Mass with the pope, but the Vatican nixed the proposal “after considering the impact that Biden receiving Holy Communion from the pope would have on the discussions the USCCB is planning to have during their meeting starting Wednesday, June 16,” CNA reported.

USCCB will consider creating a committee to draft rules on eucharistic coherence, which will likely prevent pro-abortion politicians from receiving Communion while they advocate for the killing of unborn babies.

The term “eucharistic coherence” originated in the final document of the Fifth General Conference of the Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Aparecida, Brazil, in 2007. Then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, a principal draftee, lauded the document and Pope Benedict XVI authorized the final text. The relevant section runs as follows:

We hope that legislators, heads of government, and health professionals, conscious of the dignity of human life and of the rootedness of the family in our peoples, will defend and protect it from the abominable crimes of abortion and euthanasia; that is their responsibility. Hence, in response to government laws and provisions that are unjust in the light of faith and reason, conscientious objection should be encouraged. We must adhere to ‘eucharistic coherence,’ that is, be conscious that they cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act with deeds or words against the commandments, particularly when abortion, euthanasia, and other grave crimes against life and family are encouraged. This responsibility weighs particularly over legislators, heads of governments, and health professionals.

Not Catholic but I can easily agree with the Vatican's reasoning.

This is a little misleading. The Vatican isn’t denying Biden communion, they are denying him the opportunity to take communion. There is a Catholic Bishop conference this week in the US, many of the Bishops want to push for a policy that would deny communion for those who promote abortion and transgenderism. It appears the Vatican wants to avoid this issue with Biden until the conference is over.

ROME — The Vatican has warned conservative American bishops to hit the brakes on their push to deny communion to politicians supportive of abortion rights — including President Biden, a faithful churchgoer and the first Roman Catholic to occupy the Oval Office in 60 years.
But despite the remarkably public stop sign from Rome, the American bishops are pressing ahead anyway and are expected to force a debate on the communion issue at a remote meeting that starts on Wednesday.
Some leading bishops, whose priorities clearly aligned with former President Donald J. Trump, now want to reassert the centrality of opposition to abortion in the Catholic faith and lay down a hard line — especially with a liberal Catholic in the Oval Office.
The vote threatens to shatter the facade of unity with Rome, highlight the political polarization within the American church and set what church historians consider a dangerous precedent for bishops’ conferences across the globe.

“The concern in the Vatican,” said Antonio Spadaro, a Jesuit priest and close ally of Francis “is not to use access to the Eucharist as a political weapon.”
Pope Francis, who has explicitly identified the United States as the source of opposition to his pontificate (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/10/world/europe/pope-francis-schism.html), preached this month that communion “is not the reward of saints, but the bread of sinners.” His top doctrinal official, Cardinal Luis Ladaria, wrote a letter to the American bishops, warning them that the vote could “become a source of discord rather than unity within the episcopate and the larger church in the United States.”
The result is a rare, open rift between Rome and the American church.
Opponents of the vote suspect a more naked political motivation, aimed at weakening the president, and a pope many of them disagree with, with a drawn-out debate over a document that is sure to be amplified in the conservative Catholic media and on right-wing cable news programs.
Asked about the communion issue, Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said, “As the American people know well, the president is a strong person of faith.”

Should be interesting to see how this will develop.

Very interesting J.

Too bad they did not feel they could have separated the issue from the man and if they thought he was wrong "forgive him" not scorn him.

Too bad they did not feel they could have separated the issue from the man and if they thought he was wrong "forgive him" not scorn him.A good point. I would suggest however that Biden is still the guilty party. He requested Communion from the Pope. I am not so naive as to believe Biden did not understand the political opportunity such a request presents. Rather, whoever is pulling his strings understands the political opportunity.

This is lose-lose for the Vatican. Bad guys to the left if they don't; hypocrites to the right if they do. Asked my opinion on the matter, I would say I prefer the Catholic Church stick to the principles of its beliefs, as I would my own, rather than cave to the flavor of the day the media is dictating.

I would say they should 'offer' to forgive him and teach him to the right path. And then, if he's willing to learn and get back on the right path, then of course he should be forgiven for his sins.

But I don't think he should just be outright forgiven and to receive communion, and then continue to go straight forward with his beliefs and support.
