Yep. Got to squash that incentive to excel at an early age. Wouldn't want any of these children to grow up as achievers

There you go again Gunny, pushing my buttons.

Commies are winning. We are truly doomed.

There you go again Gunny, pushing my buttons.

Commies are winning. We are truly doomed. The left always wins in free and open societies. Their win dooms the society as history clearly shows. So have gone all the free and open societies before ours in history.

It would require a revolution to fix it.

I'm a bit conflicted on this. On the one hand it's quashing those who can excel but on the other hand parents will do what parents will do.

Wealthy New York families often spend thousands of dollars on test prep for their preschoolers because the number of gifted and talented seats is limited. In a system of about 1.1 million children, about 16,000 seats are available in city-run elementary schools. As a result, gifted programs tend to isolate affluent children, and the power and resources that follow them can result in fewer resources for the general population.Across the country, schools are locked in intense debates (https://www.seattletimes.com/education-lab/faq-whats-next-for-seattle-schools-gifted-programs/) about what to do about gifted and talented programs, largely because of racial disparities. Some districts have stopped tracking gifted students (https://www.baltimoresun.com/bs-md-gifted-schools-20160129-story.html). Others move to diversify gifted programs (https://districtadministration.com/gifted-and-talented-diversification-potential/) by ensuring more disadvantaged students have a chance to be tested.
In New York City, radically overhauling gifted and talented programs has long been a political third rail (https://www.cityandstateny.com/articles/politics/news-politics/new-yorkers-clash-over-proposal-to-abolish-gifted-school-programs.html), largely because the programs are popular with affluent parents whose children are enrolled. That's the demographic New York sought to court in the 1970s and '80s with gifted programs in the first place, lest those families, often with more involved parents and higher incomes for tax purposes, move to the suburbs in search of better schools, education researchers said.

If you're just buying into the gifted program then maybe you're not really gifted.

"Gifted kindergartners."

A country's future is determined by the abilities of the top 10% of its children. An elitist idea maybe, but true. Dems like DeBlasio want the top 10% to go away.
