Do we have any pet folks here? I am a big softie when it comes to just about anything with fur. I thought maybe we could share some pet pics?

Below is a pic of my 3lb Toy Pomeranian/Maltese Mix (Pixie) and my 135lb Anatolian Shepherd (Tonks). Guess which one rules the roost? Hint: It isn't the big doggo.

I love when there is a huge and mini mix of animals, or even an "odd couple" of different species getting along!

If I had my way I would own some sort of zoo, and one where it would be inspected daily for spiders and all completely eradicated on sight.

If it weren't for my wiser half I would most certainly have a few more pets right now too! Only my kitty Nero, and then Porter and Nikoh, my Chihuahua and my Husky! I basically just love animals, minus a few of course.

I wish I had more pictures handy.

I have a few thousand of Jerome but will only just post these 2. :)

And of course none of these take into account the endless fish I have had in the past 40 years or so. And mixed in a few turtles, a few rabbits, definitely some more kitties!!

BUT, the holy grail is my pet monkey. I just haven't had him yet. YET. :)

I am so sorry to hear that. These girls are definitely a big part of my heart and it would kill me if anything happened to them. They are family.

It looks like your house is kind of like mine. I have a pretty good sized menagerie here as well and they are all family. Animal people are the best!

This is Riley - aka Muffin. Karelian Bear Dog and by far and away the smartest dog I've ever met. Too smart, actually, she uses that intelligence to get what she wants and the more devious the plan, the better.

She'll actually weigh how her 'faction points' are with me before doing something she isn't supposed to, and if she thinks we're riding on a high at the moment, she'll pull a sneaky stunt... usually involving high-quality people food she's not supposed to have. She'll have a resigned 'it was worth it, do your worst!' look on her face as I'm chewing her out for it.

When she was a wee puppy, she'd get horribly carsick and yak all over the back seat - but absolutely loved going for rides in helicopters. I took her to every job in Kodiak, since we were miles from nowhere and the Kodiak bears were thick and disrespectful of humans. She ran off quite a few big boys and set a perimeter around camp that she patrolled constantly without any training - it was all pure instinct. That allowed us to focus on our work without keeping an eye over our shoulders & packing large caliber guns around 24/7.

Anyway, we got her for the instinctive bear qualities bred into Karelians. And it's pretty fascinating to see her work a bear... she lives and breathes to confront and deal with a bear & keeping her people safe. She loves people but is an absolute savage when it comes to killing all small, fluffy and cute animals. She tolerates our cat and puppies, everything else is up for a good killin' in her view.

How I feel. My pets become a true part of my family, even if the rest of the family doesn't always see it that way. :)

I never truly get over a single one of the losses. Jerome passed in 2015 and still feels like an open wound. Nikoh got away a few years ago and I broke my wrist quickly into that chase, down a wet hill I went! I knew it but didn't care at the time as my only thought was "she can't get away, I will lose her".

I have heard folks over the years use the term "he/she was just a dog". Couldn't disagree more. They were/are my best friends, my family. Paid like $20k overall on a few small surgeries and medications for Jerome over the years. I would pay triple that to have a few more days with my ugly little buddy!!

They are never "just a dog, cat, etc.". Both my schnauzers helped me through the hardest times of my life with more love than any human ever offered up.

Riley is beautiful. I have never heard of that particular breed but it sounds like she is amazing.

I don’t understand how someone could ever come up with “just a dog.” We are pretty fortunate to have our furry family members. They bring so much extra to our lives. You should see when Tonks, the 130 lb Anatolian decides she needs to climb into my lap like the little dogs do.

My wife and I have two more little furry family members that are rescues that have even more personality than the first two. These two are Sirius and Dobby. Sirius is the black and brown Pomeranian and Dobby is the blonde Chiweenie.

Got this one tonight. Pixie just stepped off my lap onto Tonks's back. Tonks never really seemed to notice.

My daughter's pups ... I get to keep them for a few days when she's out of town. Satisfies that "urge" without long term commitment. Like babysitting grandchildren!:laugh:
