This is so astoundingly stupid. And that they would address the nation, and minimize the prior attacks so much. January 6th wasn't a great day, but was just a blip when you compare it to the attack on Pearl Harbor which killed 2,400+ Americans. Or the 9/11 terrorist attacks which killed over 2,600+.

4 people died on January 6th. Or as AOC counted: "almost 10 dead".

With respect to the 4 killed - that day was nothing to the amount lost on those former days. To put them in the same light is an embarrassment to the memory of over 5,000 killed, IMO.

Kamala Harris Compares January 6 Capitol Riot to Attacks That Killed Thousands at Pearl Harbor and on 9/11

Kamala Harris spoke at the Capitol Thursday morning along with Joe Biden to mark the anniversary of the January 6 riot that disrupted the effort by President Trump and Republicans in Congress to lawfully challenge the certification of the votes of several states in the Electoral College. Harris opened her remarks comparing the Capitol riot that saw one person killed (by law enforcement) and a handful of deaths by natural causes (one of these deaths is now being looked at as being from a police beating) to the attacks at Pearl Harbor and on 9/11 that killed thousands of Americans.

Excerpt from Harris’ speech:

Fellow Americans, good morning.

Certain dates echo throughout history, including dates that instantly remind all who have lived through them — where they were and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault. Dates that occupy not only a place on our calendars, but a place in our collective memory. December 7th, 1941. September 11th, 2001. And January 6th, 2021.

On that day, I was not only Vice President-elect, I was also a United States senator. And I was here at the Capitol that morning, at a classified hearing with fellow members of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Hours later, the gates of the Capitol were breached.

I had left. But my thoughts immediately turned not only to my colleagues, but to my staff, who had been forced to seek refuge in our office, converting filing cabinets into barricades.

It must be convenient to be able to ignore all the left wing attacks, riots, bombings, etc. of previous years.

Attack by Puerto Rican nationalists

In March 1954, four Puerto Rican nationalists opened fire on the House floor from the visitor’s gallery above, wounding five members of Congress (https://history.house.gov/Oral-History/Events/1954-Shooting/). The perpetrators were caught and imprisoned. One was released in 1978; the others were released the next year after President Jimmy Carter pardoned them.

The Weather Underground bombing

In March 1971, the extremist group set off a bomb inside a bathroom on the Senate side of the Capitol. No one was hurt, but it resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. The group claimed responsibility for multiple bombings (https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/weather-underground-bombings) in the late 1960s and 1970s, including at the Pentagon and a New York City police station.

The Armed Resistance Unit bombing

A decade later, in 1983, a leftist group protesting military action in Lebanon and Grenada set off a bomb inside the Capitol, this time blowing off the door of Sen. Robert Byrd’s office and shredding (https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/bomb_explodes_in_capitol.htm) a portrait of Daniel Webster. After a five-year hunt, three women were charged and given lengthy prison sentences. After this incident, the House and Senate chambers added metal detectors and increased security, which the pro-Trump mob breached on Wednesday.

Yep. Those that trespassed and those that broke in should bend accountable. So should the antifa and B rioters. So should all those today getting out on violent offenses. Shouldn't just be those of 1/6.
