I remember reading about these islands that China was constructing to lay more claim to South China Sea. Periodically there would be an article that would discuss them and whether they should stand. The ruling in 2016 was covered, but not much made of it.

Obviously the governments had to be aware, but in past couple of days, it's been really braking, though Ukraine ans Russia's threats of nukes are drowning it out.

There was no doubt in my mind what the Chinese were doing the first time i saw this story a couple years ago.

China means $$$$, loss of China , loss of $$$. Hmmm, who was president when China began constructing? I'm not certain, but will look in later.

Nobody did anything. Nobody prepared. Zelenskiy was as much to blame as anyone, not wanting to chance pissing off Putin (for all the good it did in hindsight).

That. Same thing going on with China and this BS. No one wants to piss off Ping Pong for fear of reprisal. Refusing to recognize China's claims makes a coral reef bristling with firepower no less a threat than the reality of it sitting there.

Rightly, what can the US do, even with an actual leader? China is violating international maritime law, not US law. China doesn't care what international court ruled. Ping Pong is gambling no one is willing to go to war over it.

I'm pretty sure he's still flipping a coin over Taiwan.
