A Washington man, whose claims to have slaughtered civilians as a U.S. Army Ranger in Iraq were seen by millions on YouTube, admitted in federal court in Seattle today that he was a fake and a liar.

Jesse Adam Macbeth, 23, pleaded guilty to charges he faked his war record.

"He was in the Army for 40 days before he was kicked out of boot camp for being unfit," said U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Sullivan. "He was never in Iraq."

Macbeth's story of killing men and women as they left a Baghdad mosque included claims that he was a U.S. Army Ranger and had received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in combat in Iraq.

His interview was translated into Arabic and distributed in the Middle East, said the U.S. attorney.

"Macbeth's lies fueled hostility to our servicemen in Iraq and here at home," Sullivan said.

Federal prosecutors and investigators with the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Veterans Affairs say they are in the midst of a crackdown on phony heroes.

"The phony war hero phenomenon plagues the American landscape and tarnishes the service of thousands of veterans who have served honorable," said Douglas Carver, special agent in charge of the VA's inspector general operation in the west.

In another recent case, investigators uncovered a man who posed as a U.S. Marine Chaplain, officiating at the weddings and funerals of Marines.

Reggie Lee Buddle, 59, of Puyallup, Wash., was sentenced to two years of probation in July after pleading guilty to charges he wore a Marine Captain's uniform and insignia.

Buddle, who never served in the Marines, participated in an opening ceremony of the Washington state Senate last year, delivering the opening prayer.

About what? A nut job loser taking his frustration that he was cut from bootcamp out on the military by telling everybody he killed civilians? He'll get what's coming to him for impersonating a federal employee. Don't worry yourself over that.

Well said, and I could not agree more....

And what Senator invited Buddle to do the opening prayer on the Senate floor, does it say anywhere?

What are you talking about? It's illegal to impersonate a federal employee or a law enforcement officer or military personnel/"faking a war record." As far as I know, chatroom avatars aren't covered, so no, somebody wouldn't go to jail for impersonating you on the internet unless they broke some other law like using your bank account to buy things without your permission. I'm surrounded by "geniuses."

I'd like to see law describing what you just wrote.

I wasn't talking about avatars - I was saying "if somebody impersonated ME, would they go to jail?"

Answer: no more quickly than if they impersonated YOU, I'd guess.

You're the one who brought up impersonating a normal citizen, not me. But you were still wrong because impersonating a normal citizen is a crime. A crime called "Identity theft." Back to the topic of the thread:

I gave you the link already dmp. Check it again. This time though, open your eyes when you look at it.

Man who bragged of murdering Iraqis debunked by Army
By Jeff Schogol, Stars and Stripes
Pacific edition, Sunday, May 28, 2006

ARLINGTON, Va. — Debunking the claims of a minor Internet celebrity, the Army said it has no record of a man who claimed he committed atrocities with Army Rangers in Iraq.

In an interview posted on the Web site SocialistAlternative.org, Jesse MacBeth claimed that his job was to “strike fear in the hearts of the Iraqi people” while serving with the 3rd Ranger Battalion.

“We would go into people’s houses and plow down entire families,” MacBeth said. “We would interrogate people. If we didn’t like the answers that they gave, then we would kill the youngest child. If they gave more answers that we didn’t like, then we’d move on to the rest of the family. They could’ve been innocent people.”

MacBeth also claimed U.S. troops would “slaughter” Iraqis in mosques.

But U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg found no evidence of a soldier named Jesse MacBeth ever serving with Army Rangers or Special Forces, said Army spokesman Paul Boyce.

Boyce also noted several red flags about MacBeth’s appearance.

“There are also numerous wear and appearance issues with the soldier’s uniform — a mix of foreign uniforms with the sleeves rolled up like a Marine and a badly floppy tan beret worn like a pastry chef,” Boyce said.

In one picture of MacBeth posted online, he is wearing his beret with the insignia centered over the wrong eye.

In a telephone interview Thursday, MacBeth said he purposely wore his uniform backward in a video interview in which he made his allegations because veterans are prohibited from wearing their uniforms at protests.

Asked why the Army found no record of him, MacBeth said, “They did the same thing to John Kerry.”

Upset? It is reasonably possible that this f***er caused some jihadist fool sitting on the fence to get off the fence and kill our boys.

No, he should be exiled. Remember when we had exile? Exile him to the ME, let him see how great it is.

Your link is stupid, and you're changing the subject.

You said he'd go to jail or otherwise get in trouble for "Impersonating a Federal Employee." I asked you for the law which makes "Impersonating Federal Employee" a crime. You cannot provide that. I told you "I'm a federal employee, and nobody would go to jail for impersonating ME any faster than if they impersonated any OTHER citizen. You started bringing up IDENTITY THEFT and all kinds of crazy bs.

You know you're wrong and are grasping at straws....unless the "Federal Employee" happens to be a cop.

Who you tryin' to get crazy with esé?
