So a horrible event. But for whatever reason they tried to lie about what took place. And then turns out they royally screwed up and didn't even breach the building for nearly an hour. I read elsewhere that parents and others wanted to do so themselves they were so pissed and they even had to handcuff several people to keep them from doing so. But why not get people there INSTANTLY and then breach with swat or whomever ASAP?

Hell, the fact is, in the end it took one officer entering to kill him? Royal screwup here IMO.

Shock: DPS Reveals Uvalde Shooter Entered Thru Unlocked Door; No Armed School Officer

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) revealed Thursday that the gunman who murdered 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde on Tuesday walked into the school through an unlocked door, and did not encounter any school police.

Previously, the media had been informed that the 18-year-old who carried out a mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School had been confronted by an armed school resource officer outside school, and had exchanged gunfire with him.

On Thursday, DPS Regional Director Victor Escalon told reporters that at 11:28 a.m. on Tuesday, after the gunman crashed a pickup truck near the school, he began his attack. The gunman climbed a four-foot-high chain link fence around the school, and fired at the school as he approached. He also fired at two eyewitnesses at a funeral home nearby. By 11:40 a.m., he had approached the west side of the school. He “was not confronted by anybody” outside the school, armed or otherwise.

Escalon added that there was no school resource officer on campus, and that the first report came to police at 11:30 a.m.

Though said it was still uncertain, it appeared that the shooter had entered the building through an unlocked door. He said that further investigation could reveal that the door was unlocked, but that at the moment it appeared to have been unlocked.

Escalon added that local police responded sixteen minutes after the crash, at 11:44 a.m., and entered the building, but retreated after an exchange of gunfire in which some officers were apparently wounded. Law enforcement then waited outside the building for an hour.

There were apparently some negotiations with the gunman, who had barricaded himself inside a fourth-grade classroom. There were few gunshots during that hour; Fox News reported that most of the killing happened early, though it was not apparent whether some of the victims who were wounded in the first minutes of the rampage could still have been saved.

The shooter was killed in an exchange of gunfire with a Border Patrol tactical officer who later rushed into the building.

Such a shame. And took an hour for any type of tactical team to arrive?

Witness: Police Stood Outside the School While Mass Murderer Salvador Ramos Went on Killing Spree – Armed Police Pinned One Man to the Ground

UPDATE: On Thursday, Officer Escalon of the TxDPS-South Region provided an update on their investigation regarding the mass shooting. Escalon confirmed that police departments arrived at the scene four minutes after the shooting began. An hour later, US Border Patrol tactical teams arrived, they made an entry, shot, and killed the suspect.

A viral video making rounds online shows anxious, angry parents pleading to the police to go inside the school while mass murderer Salvador Ramos spent more than 40 minutes inside.

On Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that 19 students and 2 teachers were killed in a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday and also shot his grandmother in the face. Senator Roland Gutierrez said the grandmother is still alive but in critical condition.

According to multiple reports, the deranged shooter spent more than 40 minutes inside as loved ones and onlookers begged the police to charge into the building.

Javier Cazares, whose daughter died in the attack, urged the bystanders to “rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to. More could have been done. They were unprepared.”

A viral video showed armed police pinning one man to the ground as the bystanders yelled at them to go in.

That's not unreasonable. Uvalde is about half way between San Antonio and the Mexican border. It's a nice "pit stop" on the way to Mexico. It's a town just big enough to have everything you need and no bigger. It WAS a chill kind of place. It's about the last place that one would expect this kind of thing to happen. Very few people would expect this kind of thing to happen in their wildest dreams. The whole culture of the town has been wrecked forever.

The only thing that raises my eyebrows is that the Border Patrol is everywhere in that area. Why didn't they assist?

Here's the problem with anger being directed at a small town police department: We don't want to demand that small town police departments be turned into SWAT teams complete with military weapons. It may mean a somewhat longer response times for freak situations like this, but it's worth it not to live in a police state.

Not surprising. They are in full 'cover your ass' mode right now. I do hope more and more comes out at a minimum.

This is an unbelievable story about Mom here, in several ways of course.
