'Bout time. As I understand it, AZ already has. Abbott needs to tell the Fed gov't to go to Hell until it can start doing the job its supposed to be doing.

BRACKETTVILLE — Leaders in several Texas border counties declared Tuesday they are under “invasion” and called on Gov. Greg Abbott to start expelling migrants suspected of crossing into the country illegally.
The move aligns with some conservative officials and activists who have privately urged Abbott to begin unilaterally enforcing federal immigration laws. Expelling migrants from the country would be unprecedented for the state but justified, they argue, by the Biden administration’s push to expand legal pathways for migrants to enter the country.

“This is not a photo op today,” said Kinney County Judge Tully Shahan, one of several county officials to declare a “local state of disaster” due to the surge in migrant encounters at the southern border.

“We don’t want to lose America,” Shahan said. “The Biden administration won’t do a thing about it. They could stop this thing this hour. They could stop it now.”
Kinney County was one of at least four counties — joined by Goliad, Terrell and Uvalde — to issue a disaster declaration this week and call on Abbott to enforce federal immigration laws. The governor said in April (https://www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/texas/article/Texas-AG-candidate-George-P-Bush-joins-17137940.php) that he has declined to do so because he’s concerned about legal consequences.
Texas would almost certainly face a barrage of legal challenges if Abbott decided to expel migrants instead of turning them over to Border Patrol or detaining them on state trespassing charges, as he has done under his border initiative, Operation Lone Star.
“There are federal laws that law enforcement could be prosecuted under if they were to take someone, without authority, and immediately return them across the border,” Abbott said in April.

The United Nations recently declared the U.S.-Mexico border the world's deadliest crossing following the deaths of 53 migrants in San Antonio, Texas

Some officials said unprecedented illegal immigration has resulted in property damage, stolen vehicles, gun violence and other issues resulting from migrants crossing into their counties, many of which are desolate and have sparse populations.
"In my community, we have less than 1,000 residents. The thousand residents everyday live in fear of the invasion," said Dale Lynn Carruthers, the county judge for Terrell County. "We are doing the best we can with limited manpower. Terrell County has the least to offer… but we have a lot of border coverage."
Others talked about migrants crossing through school campuses and putting lives in danger while trying to flee U.S. Border Patrol agents and local and state authorities.
In May, Kinney County law enforcement documented more than 4,000 migrants who avoided apprehension by the Border Patrol, the county said in a news release. In June, authorities there prevented 67 smuggling attempts (https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/crime) along county roadways, officials said.
Goliad County Judge Mike Bennett said his county has two stoplights and has a sheriff's department that has two deputies on duty at any given time.

"Clearly, it's the responsibility of the United States government to do this and clearly they're not going to do a thing," Bennett added.
With migrant numbers (https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/immigration) hitting historic levels, and with more than 239,000 migrant encounters in May alone, there has been considerable talk in conservative circles about the merits of declaring the crisis an "invasion" – which could open up a number of potential legal avenues for states.
Ken Cuccinelli, the former acting deputy secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, previously told Fox News Digital that the move by the Texas counties was significant and should now put more pressure on Abbott to make the declaration himself.
"The key here is you've got the first legal ruling that the southern border situation is an invasion," he said. " One, that's obviously very significant, and two it's going to – as it should – put enormous pressure on Governor Abbott to adopt that position themselves and to respond accordingly."

Could never prove treason. Incompetence still has a high bar, but it's much lower than treason.

The problem with that is once you prove Biden incompetent, you have to give Harris a fair turn to screw everything up worse. Whoever pulls his strings has a hand on hers as well.

I half-suspect the leftoid machine is waiting for and wants the Republicans to remove Biden. They'll protest a bit but not offer any real resistance. They'll turn around and use it as a political cudgel later, no matter what they say at the time.

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't for the People.

Biden really should be impeached for all of his border related actions and failures and what it's brought to our country. It's a disgrace, IMO.
