I wouldn't bet a wooden nickel on the person occupying the WH telling Putin we'll do as we damned well please. To the contrary, The US and NATO has followed every rule Putin has laid out from the beginning.

My question is, why would we provide Ukraine with longer range missiles than we already have? Ukraine already has the capability to reach the Ukraine-Russia border.

The "red line" that shouldn't have been crossed is the Russia-Ukraine border. Now Russia's pointing fingers at whoever has supplied arms to Ukraine, trying to gaslight the situation. Parts of Western Europe and the US will buy it

Fact is, if Russia wasn't in Ukraine, Russia wouldn't be there to get its ass kicked.
