Drawing lines in the sand. Basically, the Philippines grounded an old WWII ship in a reef it claims and mans it as a base. China has been aggressive about harassing RP resupply efforts to include opening up on one boat with a water cannon.

We do still have a mutual defense treaty with the RP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_Defense_Treaty_(United_States%E2%80%93Phili ppines)

sadly, our leadership has also been ensnared in the belt and road initiative.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI, or B&R[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-ndrc_751695-1)), known within China as the One Belt One Road (Chinese (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language): 一带一路; pinyin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin): Yīdài Yīlù) or OBOR for short,[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-xinhuanet_1124890400-2) is a global infrastructure development (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_development) strategy adopted by the Chinese government (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_China) in 2013 to invest in more than 150 countries and international organizations.[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-AutoLT-1-3) It is considered a centerpiece of the Chinese leader (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paramount_leader) Xi Jinping (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xi_Jinping)'s foreign policy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_policy_of_Xi_Jinping).[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-:0-4) The BRI forms a central component of Xi's "Major Country Diplomacy" (Chinese (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language): 大国外交) strategy, which calls for China to assume a greater leadership role for global affairs in accordance with its rising power (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerging_power) and status.[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-5) It has been compared to the American Marshall Plan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Plan). As of August 2023, 155 countries were listed as having signed up to the BRI.[6] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-6) The participating countries include almost 75% of the world's population and account for more than half of the world's GDP.[7] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt_and_Road_Initiative#cite_note-7): 192

most likely they will roll over, for their sino-centric portfolios.

most likely they will roll over, for their sino-centric portfolios. We've been offering the Belt and Road initiative since the end of WWII, even to China. Off the top of my head, it goes back as far as the Romans who did the same.

There's nothing new under the sun except people without vision who cannot learn from history.

In other words, give China what it demands and all will be well. China's claims were ruled against, including its claim to the Second Thomas Shoal. The problem doesn't appear to be the RP; rather, China bullying.
