13,000 people were assisted in 2022.

The law was expanded in 2021 to include people experiencing “grievous and irremediable” conditions, such as poverty, depression, and other mental health issues.

Over 13,000 Canadians were euthanized as part of the program in 2022, the Daily Mail reported.

In fact, euthanasia accounted for 4% of all Canadian deaths in 2022.

thank GodIsn't this the crux of the whole argument? IMO, it is. If people of sound mind choose to off themselves, that's their personal choice like any other, is it not?

I draw a distinction between personal choice, and the State being involved in any way except to stay the Hell out of it. Biggest red flag to me when I first saw this in the other thread on the same topic was whether or not medical professionals were being forced to participate. We certainly have no problem forcing medical professionals to participate in things they object to.

On the other hand, I don't see a reason for unaffected people who are nothing more than morally opposed to be any more involved than the State.

http://www.debatepolicy.com/showthread.php?75222-Euthanasia-in-New-Zealand&p=1022248#post1022248Your response is to quote yourself from the other thread? Your religious belief that our lives our not fully ours to take has no standing in secular court, nor with non-religious people.

If it ever comes up for a vote, I'll vote against it just like I did gay marriage and abortion. That is my little bit of say in the matter and I otherwise have no control over what the people of the state decide. In the end, where legal, it is the individual's decision and if that person has sinned, that person is not accountable to me. Nor you.

agreed.
Legal or Illegal

it's not about "accountability" to me or you.
The best we can do is pass on the info we understand to be from God, to the best of our understanding.
What people do with that is their business.

In Canada, if you interfere or impede someone from accessing Medical Assistance in Dying, or cause them 'fear,' you could be arrested and put in jail for up to 10 years,' warned lawyer Daniel Ari Freiheit.

They're already doing that. Taking children away from parents who don't support it and then charging them as well for contempt of court for not remaining silent.

Even worse than I thought.
Canadian Afghanistan Veteran mentions how far "MAID" "Medical Assistance In Dying" has gone there.
Not trying to get anyone to watch the whole interview. the MAID portion is Just a short section near the end. starting at the 1:17 mark
(most of the interview she covers things I suspect that most folks here know far better than she does. Same story as many since Viet Nam)

She says they are
Offering Veterans with PTSD assisted suicide instead of help/treatment
They are offering it generally in Hospitals
& to the Healthy in nursing homes
& to Children down to 12
& for Depression etc..

Why?
She says it's because it saves -the FREE- gov't health care system money.

The realities of Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada

"...In 2015, the Canadian Supreme Court declared that an absolute Criminal Code prohibition on assisted suicide and euthanasia was unconstitutional. In response, the Canadian parliament enacted Bill C-14 in 2016 permitting assisted suicide and euthanasia for the end-of-life context, which it termed “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAiD). In 2021, Bill C-7 expanded eligibility for MAiD to those with disabilities not approaching their natural death. By 2021, MAiD accounted for 3.3% of all deaths in Canada with some areas of Canada presently reporting MAiD death rates upward of 7%. In 2021, Canada had 10,064 deaths by MAiD, surpassing all jurisdictions for yearly reported assisted deaths...."

https://youtu.be/U622DUytGAY?si=E8hsSqm7oHQyd4jQ&t=4637Nothing surprising here. While their surface argument has been how humane it is, the underlying has always been the dollar.

I find it morally reprehensible. Not so much the people of sound mind that would choose that route; rather, the bots calling themselves people in the system who see people as numbers and the bottom line in dollars. I'd as soon be rid of the latter type humanoids as anyone.

Obviously, people with PTSD severe enough to warrant the question being asked aren't of sound mind.

Just another case of something that could be an option on a level playing field being abused by morons that can't see past lunch time and that one day someone could be making the same decision about them. THEN, it'll be different. Reminds me of an episode of the Twilight Zone where the State determines Burgess Meredith is obsolete.

Cana-duh is seriously turning into something ugly that doesn't have a lot to do with freedom or democracy.
