How can they be an "economic threat"? Are they going to sell us too may DVD players?

The Chinese have never had any desire to take on the US. Their sphere of influence has not changed in 4000 years.

We can start by putting a tariff on imported goods from China. We need to stop rewarding China for its lax environmental and labor laws. It baffles me that people here hound U.S. companies about such laws but give all the foreign companies we import from a free pass. Shouldn't all environmental standards extend to everybody? It doesn't matter if the pollution is happening in the U.S. or China, its all one globe, one Earth. All we're doing is passing the buck to countries like China, giving them a free pass to pollute as much as they want while we pretend to care about the environment because of our domestic laws. So the reality is U.S. companies are either going out of business or they just outsource to these thrid world countries where the companies can operate at much lower costs, all at the expense of the environment and human rights.

Because it's not about the environment anymore. It's about anti-capitalism, anti-corporatism, and anti-Americanism, in that order...then maybe the environment at fourth.
