this is an incredible song, extremely hard for any singer...though my husband, who is a singer/songwriter ...can do a pretty damn good job at it!!!(if he does vocal exercises ahead of time) :)

Hey dan, do you have the Pet Sounds box set? There are three discs...maybe four. One disc is the original album, another disc is a stereo recording, and my favorite disc is vocals only. It is a wonderful example of the vocal talents the Beach boys had and they do God Only Knows.

As for a favorite song, I can't pick just one, though the song on my iPod that has the most plays is Summertime from Porgy & Bess. I have the Billy Stewart recording of the song.

And you can throw in the entire Jimmy Buffett catalogue.

I'd heard about that, but hadn't checked it out. I would like to hear that vocals-only disc. Pretty much every song on that album has some new layer to it that I hear whenever I listen to it, which to me is a sign of great music. Look at it like this: there wasn't an album that sounded like Pet Sounds before it, and there hasn't been one since. That's a major accomplishment, especially in the world of pop music.

For me, though, Baba O'Reilly is the better song, Won't Get Fooled Again gets slightly repetetive, although the end of the song (meet the new boss/same as the old boss) is one of my favorite moments in any song, and I think Keith Moon's drumming was never better.

I don't think I ever heard a CCR or a John Fogerty jamm that was difficult in any way to play. Whatever?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I have favorites in many genres. Just for a favorite to play I stick with Western Swing and Big Band but my all time favorite to listen to and play is Allman Brothers "Ain't My Cross To Bare". I dig the tension/extended chordation and simple but serious lyrics.

Have you ever listened to "My Mama Done Told Me" by many artists? That is a jamm worth noting here.
