This is my choice:

As a young man, this album cover left quite an impression on me. I also credit this cover for stimulating my enjoyment of jazz. Of all my dad's reel-to-reel tapes, I played this one more than any other.

The cover features a photograph by Pennie Smith of Paul Simonon smashing his bass guitar against the stage, at The Palladium in New York City - which was at the time the Mecca of punk and new wave music - on 21 September 1979 during the "Clash Take the Fifth" U.S. tour. The picture is surrounded by typography similar to Elvis Presley's debut album. The picture was later voted the best rock and roll photograph of all time by Q, although at the time Smith did not want the picture used. She did not feel it was a technically good shot because the photograph is slightly out of focus (as she was backing away from Paul to avoid getting hit). However, Joe Strummer convinced her to use the shot. The broken remains of Simonon's bass are in the permanent collection of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

I have that album, it was, and remains, one of my favorites. Train in Vain is not listed as a track on the sleeve or the label on the disc.

Although I am not going to say its the greatest cover...I thought the record symbol on the cover would be the COOLEST tatoo ever!

I don't think it was their best work, it felt, to me, almost as if they did it because they were contractually obligated to record and album. I'm not saying this was the case, I don't know, it just felt that way. Like there was something else they would rather have been doing.

That's just my opinion.

I liked Lennox's cover. As far as covers go...

These two come to mind. I liked them when I was fairly little. I liked the The Stones cover because they had faces on the other side, so you could switch people and wigs when you took the album cover out. The faces were on the cover inside. I also liked the inside photo on the Stone's Beggar's Banquet album too.

yes annies cover was ok
they were contracted to do so many albums . they have always maintained that they got a really bad deal so opted for the double london calling and tripple sandinista , they both sold for the price of a single album here.
if you get a chance watch the clash on broadway it will enlighten you :D

i love sandanist.....washington bullets is one of my all time favs....
the whole album grew on me , washington bullets , somebody got murdered and junco partner stand out the most for me but as i say i can listen to the lot

Absolutely not, IMO. While they may be interesting, the scale does not lend itself to the detail. Besides, imagine how many CD covers it would take to paper one wall in your house.

These days, I have to settle for a 2" x 2" representation of the cover, while I listen to the song on iTunes. :)

I saw them in concert in 1981. They were playing on the pier next to the USS Intrepid.

i saw them in 78 or 79 in sheffield (uk) they were the first band i found myself (no peer pressure , in fact all my mates hated them ) .
a lot of bands will say the clash were the biggest inspiration they had , and they were responsible for the huge amount of white folk attempting reggae / ska after the guns of brixton .
