View Full Version : Best Post Contest! $$

That's right, win $25 for simply doing what you already do - post!

The catch is, there will only be one winner, and that winner must present the best post in a 2 week time frame. One liners, flaming & cut-n-paste won't win this one. I'm looking for a post that is completely written by one of our members, intelligently, thought provoking and leaves the reader feeling like they truly benefited. Think of "spikesmygod" when posting, although his content or political leaning has no bearing. He spent a great deal of time making one single post that would get great reviews each and every time. If you're unfamiliar with his posts, do a search on his name as a few members have reposted a few of his articles in his honor and remembrance.

The content doesn't matter, it can be political, sports, comedy, chat, a movie review... What counts is the quality of the post.

If you see a post starting posted after this begins, and you want to nominate it, post a link to it in this thread.

If you write a post and want to be considered, post a link in this thread.

I will be the sole judge, so all members are available to participate. I will be 100% impartial, which is why I clearly state it need not be about politics, although of course they will count as well.

A winner will be declared on Monday, December 3rd at 8pm. Winner will receive $25 via Paypal. Remember, it's not a hard contest, just one good post can take it!

A special thanks to an "anonymous" member for not only helping with the idea, but sponsoring the contest and winning funds as well. :)

Cool, both to you and the member. Now this is a new idea, though considering the stuff in the past few hours, I've no hope for. ;) I've garnered enough words.

Jim, you do one thing to your mom, I'll find a way to get that on all mb throughout the US. Your mom rocks. You take care of her! *edited* to say I know Jim and his bro and sis care for their mom. I was posting like everyone knows that, but it may not be the case.

My point was that anyone that 'knows' Joan, knows her kids have lots of reasons to respect and care for her. Joan rocks.

I will give three examples.

Hate crimes are a joke. I dont care why someone shoots someone, or wants to kill someone, its still murder, attempted murder or conspiracy to commit murder.

Also, the lack of values by most people getting married is the reason marriage is failing, not marriage itself.

Political correctness is making impossible for anybody to have an honest discussion about anything or to say or think anything that is unpopular.

I suppose it would be poor form to point out copying and pasting isn't allowed per the stated rules?

There ain't no way in hell you wrote even a small portion of that. :)

(Thus, this post should win - not a single thing in it can be disputed, and nothing was cut/copied/pasted.)

Ummmm.... Martin? The contest is for posts you write yourself, not copied from elsewhere. And they should still be posted in the appropriate places, not in the announcements section. Post a LINK to the post you want to nominate in this thread...

Can you please edit your posts to tidy this thread up a little?

Well, in an act of defiance I will nominate the third post of this thread (http://www.debatepolicy.com/showthread.php?t=1329)as an example of past greatness. See? I am not conceited (I'm convinced). Yep, read the first three posts. One of em actually has a disclaimer just in case the men in black were monitoring it y'know? The links of course are not written by me, instead they support the facts. The format is also explained in one of the first two posts I think.

I was hoping it would foster more of a discussion, guess I was preaching to the choir. Over at USMB I posted it and really, really, really, ticked off someone from Maine. Even though I disallowed one of the facts because he disputed the interpretation of the link, there was sufficiet number of facts pointing to the opinon that it stood.

Check it out, I think it is in the archives.

Don't need to do that love...... (I don't think my post is allowed as it is over the two week time limit) I was just throwing a temper tantrum about having to actually sit down and work for the prize. But I love the thought.

And, I didn't notice a limit to nominations by one person either.

I mean if there is only one judge, shouldn't we really make him work for it with a lot of worthy stuff eh?

Happy Thanksgiving

If I were so inclined, I would address the complete and total lack of civility exhibited by some members of our community, we all know the politics in this country suck, we all know that the war on terrorism is being used as a wedge by both sides of the aisle, there is little to nothing that we can do about that.

On the other hand, we as a cyber community, might be able to come together and do something about the the valuable bandwidth being used for personal attacks, vendettas, sniping, bickering, and back biting.

It wouldn't take much. We all know who the actors are. If we all made a effort to ignore the trolls in question, if we refused to take the bait, if we didn't respond to their meaningless, mind numbing, useless threads, they would eventually get the message and move along.

I understand that we will have disagreements from time to time, that's natural and to be expected. You can't talk politics and/or religion without disagreements, that would be rather boring. But the personal attacks and vitriol are growing to be a distraction I think we could all do without.

The majority of the members here are adults, and most of us behave as such. It's a shame that the rest of us don't follow suit.

I think hjmick is referring to those flaming. Now on the other hand, my view is that our political discussions could use less, "liberals=communists" and "conservatives want war" and more conversation. Then again, since Washington has lost it, even in the Senate, why wouldn't that be reflective of those of us hiding behind a computer.

We're all the worse for it though. Singularly and collectively.

Many other forums I read use the rule: "discuss the topic, not the member". You get one warning from a moderator, then you're game.

Same goes, to a lesser degree, for off topics and hijacking threads, since anyone can open a new thread if you don't want to stick to the topic at hand, then you're kindly asked to open a new one.

I find really amusing when someone insults me like "are you some sort of black/muslim/gay/communist/weirdo?"
"yes, all of them. Does it lower the value of me as a person, or the value of my opinions? Wanna discuss the topic, now?"

See, it's easy as this, if you don't want insults you simply don't throw them for starters, kids will go away looking for fun somewhere else.

And if someone really insults you bad, just tell the moderators

I wanna nominate this post (http://www.debatepolicy.com/showpost.php?p=163226&postcount=11)as least likely to win the bux and most likely to be misunderstood and draw fire.
