RIP, Mike. You were the best Animal I've EVER known. Thank you GOD for giving Mike to us. These 11.5 years we had - That cat blessed all who knew him.

Sorry for your loss, but not to worry, he'll be waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge.

thanks for your condolences folks.

Here's mike's xray. Note the large white mass - squishing his intestine's, lungs, etc. He was a big cat - so nothing seemed wrong externally.

I had the whole family there to say 'goodbye'. I'm thankful we all got a few last precious minutes with him. If you guys didn't know him, and most of you didn't, he really WAS a special cat. He'd do things I've never seen cats do. He'd HUG people.

Thanks Yurt. He was indeed. At nearly 35, I suppose I've been blessed to have never before lost anything (via death) so close to me.

The 11 years of GOOD he brought to us outweigh the sadness we now feel. Hands down. At least he's free from suffering. At very least. It's a shame the animal world lost such a fantastic "personality".

my most heartfelt condolences.... we lost our 20 year old maine coon cat last summer. I was devastated and so was my wife. We have four others and they are all 8 or older so I have more of it coming. Cats are really marvelous creatures.

My honest condolences. Anytime you lose a family member it is tough.

And, just to prove that not everyone gets it......

Sorry to hear the news Darrin...... you have the memories and you are lucky enough to have shot some really nice photographs of him so his memory will stay alive. I have gone through many of these types of loses, it never gets easy but I will never let it keep me from getting more furry buddies...... the hurt subsides but the good memories last the rest of your life. Hang in there.

Sorry Darin. I know for myself, I don't think I could live without a cat around.

Sorry to hear about your friends passing.

Pets are such good friends and they are so hard to say goodbye to. I still cry when I think of my boy dog who left over a year ago.

I hope your family pain is softened by the memory of all the fine years you had with your furry friend. They are short lived and our only consolation to that is we can share our lives with many of them throughout the years.

My condolences to you and your family.

Thanks everyone - I really appreciate the amount of sympathy shown, even by those with whom things have gotten...heated.

Haven't cried today - work up about 15 times last night thinking of Mike. Awakened this a.m. to the sobs of my wife as she lay beside me. Last night Bradlee wouldn't come upstairs - he meowed and called for more than an hour. I can't be sure but I think he was calling for his brother. The romantic in me thinks that anyway. :)

Anywho - because mary didn't sleep well, she's up stairs on a couple benadryls. I've just made breakfast for the kids. Got a lot to do around the house - we're having company for dinner tonite. Deep Fried Turkey. I think it'll do us all some good to have more 'life' in the house.

T Deep Fried Turkey. I think it'll do us all some good to have more 'life' in the house.

Down here, fried turkey has become very popular so each year the TV news guys show how stupid people are when it comes to doing that. Some how they just don't get it...... 6 gallons of boiling peanut oil is pretty dangerous.

I know you aren't going to do this, just thought it was interesting. You tube has a bunch of how to videos on doing it Cajun style.

I've put-off looking at this photo until today. This was taken about 5 minutes before mike died. This is how we said goodbye; as mike lay on a towel covering a stainless steel table.

Looking at this photo breaks my heart again.

One year later and it still hurts. When Mary and I were talking about Mike with relatives over TGiving, we both teared up.
