If Hillary Clinton becomes the first woman president, she’ll accomplish another “first” that supporters are less eager to acknowledge: She’ll be the first candidate to win with the support of many who are really more interested in the candidate’s spouse.
“The underlying reason is a yearning for a Bill Clinton third term,” one South Florida Democratic official who supports Clinton said privately. “The feeling is that he is a power behind the throne.”
Charles Morgan, a Destin restaurateur who in August hosted a fund-raiser for Hillary Clinton that was attended by the former president, said he agreed with that assessment.
“I don’t think it ever struck what a powerful addition he is to her campaign until he was here,” said Morgan, a prominent Panhandle Democrat who says he also plans to host a fund-raiser for former Sen. John Edwards. “From a standpoint of fund-raising, from a standpoint of campaigning, from a standpoint of getting him back in the White House.”

Chris Matthews: Is Hillary A Target of Comics Because 'She's So Pure and Good?'
By Geoffrey Dickens | December 12, 2007 - 18:34 ET
On Wednesday night's "Hardball" Chris Matthews speculated that the writer's strike is benefitting Hillary Clinton, since she is often the target of late night comics like Jay Leno and David Letterman. However he reasoned that the New York senator is the butt of so many jokes because "she's so pure and good."
On the December 10 edition of "Hardball," during a discussion with the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz and the Kansas City Star's Aaron Barnhart about the political impact of comics like Leno, Letterman and Jon Stewart being on strike, Matthews wondered why there were so many jokes at Hillary's expense as he asked: "Is she a natural target because she's so pure and good?"

I would love to be a fly on the wall should Hillary lose in IA
Can you see her screaming, cussing, and throwing another lamp at Bill - blaming him for her loss?

Chris Matthews: Hillary Really 'Cares' About 'The Regular Person'
By Geoffrey Dickens | December 13, 2007 - 12:49 ET
When asked, by NBC's Meredith Vieira, on Thursday's "Today" show how the Hillary Clinton campaign can stop their current slide, Chris Matthews urged Clinton to remind voters that she really does care about the little guy as he declared that the Clintons: "Care about the regular person in this country, the regular middle-working class family with all their problems of health care and raising their kids. Hillary Clinton, especially, cares about those things. It's obvious she does. It's not a fraud
Target rich environment for the Clintons and their brand of politics, right now. Focus on the economy, focus on people's economic fears, not the stock market type people, the people worried about paying tuition, worried about keeping a job, worried about health care. It's a perfect market basket of opportunities for them. They can get off the Iraq war where she's very much in trouble because she voted for the war and focus on economic conditions. By the way if they lose a squeaker in Iowa they can still win in New Hampshire. They gotta stop acting like it's the last minute in an NBA game and they gotta foul the other guy to get the ball back. They gotta end this sense of desperation. It's either Mark Penn, Mandy Grunwald, somebody in that campaign keeps teaching them fear. Fear is killing the Clinton campaign. It's not the last minute of this game. She's ahead 20 or 30 points nationally, plenty of time to prove that they're Clintons. Stop attacking Obama, start selling Clinton-ism again. That's what they gotta do.
