Their project need is 40K ICU beds, they have 3k. They are opening Javits center as a hospital. They could be 14 days from a serious problems. They NEED to slow the increase, it hasn't happened yet. They have the highest testing in the US. They've exhausted their options, they've done all they could, including anti-malarial trials. They are testing for antibodies to virus-meaning immunity. Apex is higher than thought and coming sooner than thought it would. They are still far short in the number of beds. They are trying to get hotels, dorms, etc. They need more healthcare workers and back up workers. They know the rate of sickness among staff is high. The are desperate for ventilators. Life and death depends upon them. They have 3-4k. They have gained 7k, still need 30k. Can't be bought or found. Can't be made in 10 days. They are trying a procedure of using 1 ventilator for 2 patients. It's experimental, dangerous, but necessary. He is asking the feds to consider using National Procurement Act. 3 or 5 weeks isn't going to cut it, the feds under the act would give the company the $$ for workers to produce in 14 days. No red tape. Voluntary offers are too slow. He's also suggesting to move ventilators across the country-NY is the 'canary in the coal mine.' What's now there, will be somewhere else when it passes NY. Then move them to the next region reaching their apex. He's realizing what others are not, that the virus is moving at different times through the population. Now it's NY, CA, WA; Next will be IL, FL, TX, etc. We can learn and help as time goes on. Job 1 should be saving lives. Let those with antibodies go back to work. Then the economy can move along without more health endangerment. People are not going to pick 'fix economy over lives,' restart economy while protecting the health. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : NightTrain Date : 03-24-2020 12:44 PM As much as I loathe his politics, I have to say that Cuomo is all over this and doing a good job. Not the federal government's fault. Trump wants the country back to work. By Easter. Not built to 'stay home.' I've been watching him on FOX town hall with Pence, US Surgeon General, Birks. Even referring to 'hot spots' he says we can work around those that are ill. We got to get back to work. If he's right, genius. If he's wrong, gonna be ugly. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : jimnyc Date : 03-24-2020 01:03 PM Rate of increase in cases is going up. 2X every 3 days. !40k hospital beds may be needed. My Dad told me that Trump aka a few companies got some there and more coming, but unfortunately it's still gonna be hard to keep up. NYC is going to be much much worse, as it's a much more confined area for like 8 million people. I'm about 10-15 miles just north of there, and it's not any prettier. The only benefit in NY is the amount of hospitals, of which there are tons. But ventilators are needed as much as beds, if not more. I know some folks are getting plain old oxygen tubes as well. But the numbers are increasing quickly, and the "peak" hasn't hit yet. And the numbers are increasing quickly in NYC and here in lower Westchester County. Many many more are starting to wear masks. As much as I loathe his politics, I have to say that Cuomo is all over this and doing a good job. A lot of people get a kick out of the NY/NJ talking. I am NOT one that talks like a hardcore NY'er from Brooklyn. I detest that accent myself. I didn't even think I have any type of accent at all, but ways of speaking and saying words for surely! Especially them bad ones! :thumb: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Kathianne Date : 03-24-2020 01:12 PM He is back to the flu, car accidents, and depression causes suicide. Will they stick with this deadline, or will we see a walkback when the implications of this sink in with Trump’s advisers? Let’s not forget, though, that governors control most of this process, including when businesses re-open. They may not be anywhere near as sanguine about their preparations — and they’ll be a lot closer to the situation. ... It's true about the governors and control of 'stay at home orders,' but if the President is calling those at home shirkers, unpatriotic, etc., his 'people' will flip off the governor or anyone that tries to stop them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : NightTrain Date : 03-24-2020 01:18 PM Yeah, I loathed him. then last week I caught one of his briefings, I was shocked by how much he seemed to know. This ventilator thing has to do with emergency preparedness coordination-governor. I think Cuomo is panicking with the NYC numbers, they say apex hits in 14-21 days. I can't imagine the stress, and it will continue 24/7 for the next few months without letup. I saw frustration in Trump for the past week, until yesterday. He was getting combative again, not angry. Today it was moreso. Bottom line, while being a business person has served him and the country very well, I do think in this case it's not helping. In a very real way, his personality is to take control, naysayers be damned. He's a big risk/big reward type of guy. He can't force the governors to rescind any of their orders, but he can start to rally his base, most of whom would likely follow what he says. Devel (sp) Patrick, lt. gov. of TX stated last night, he'd be willing to risk his own health/life, he's over 70, if the economy would be safe for his children/grandchildren. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Kathianne Date : 03-24-2020 02:14 PM Here's part of my issue with the President's presentation yesterday. Let's hope they both stay focused productively and cooperatively. I agree. I don't know for certain what either of these men are really like, just what is projected. I think Cuomo is in panic, as you said, for good reason. I think that Trump has made a decision, so he's back to form. He was not himself while trying to project what the medical folks and I'm sure other people he does respect were telling him he had to. The people liked it, especially those who are his core, but for good reason, feared this virus. It put their action in sync with what he was saying. Even those who aren't fond of him, (understatement), were glad to see that he cared about the lives, (gotta remember what he'd said about those stuck on the cruise ship on the west coast a couple weeks ago.) Now back to whiplash, though the numbers are not going down, but up. https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2020/3/20/21179040/coronavirus-us-italy-not-overreacting I know it's Vox, but look at the sourcing. US is 300M. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : jimnyc Date : 03-24-2020 05:10 PM Cuomo and Trump have both sent some jabs to one another. But then they still hop on the phone and get shit done, and then congratulate one another. Now deBlasio, that's a different ballgame. He takes jabs at Trump, but differently, and calls for insanity and stupidity and some contrary to Cuomo and others. And of course has been declaring Trump has already killed people all along... and of course is more concerned with liberal agendas, and always has been. He's been absolutely horrible in NYC and has been since day one. Argumentative like that with many, his way or the highway and then you get condemned anyway. If I still worked in NYC like I did for many years, I would look for work elsewhere. And we almost moved in an apt there once and came close to purchasing a condo. Looking back, that would have been a mistake, and more than just deBlasio. I could list endless things about him that make me wanna punch him in his face, but the majority is local type issues that no one on the right would come close to agreeing with, nor would anyone even leaning right, nor would the majority of moderates! In my opinion of course. Cuomo isn't someone I would ever vote for and still wouldn't. Can't stand so much about the man and his policies and agendas. But he has still done a fantastic job thus far with taking the reigns over this virus. He is a hard worker like Trump, where he'll work 21 hours a day. I think he's done a stand up job in controlling things and getting things done. And I appreciate being updated with the news as often as we get it. I also subscribed to his updates and I get emails "from" Cuomo with daily updates. What needs to be done know is 100% concentration on this virus and all things related to this virus. I think Cuomo has done a great job of that. deBlasio, like some others out there, have unfortunately taken the path of letting their politics dictate their responses to this. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : jimnyc Date : 03-24-2020 05:20 PM Other threads, but this one as good as any for today! Andrew Cuomo said the rate of increase of coronavirus cases in New York has grown, and the rate of new infections is doubling every three days. “That is a dramatic increase in the rate of infection,” Cuomo said. “We’re not slowing it, and it is accelerating it on its own.” Cuomo says new projections suggest New York will now need up to 140,000 hospital beds, and has a current capacity of roughly 53,000 beds. The governor spoke surrounded by supplies that are shipping out to area hospitals and in the presence of National Guard mobilized to meet the health crisis. There will be a need for 40,000 ICU beds with ventilators, well more than the state’s current capacity of approximately 3,000-4,000. The peak of the pandemic in New York is now 14-21 days away, Cuomo said. “One of the forecasters said to me we were looking at a freight train coming across the country. We are now looking at a bullet train,” he said. Andrew Cuomo issued a blistering assessment of Washington’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday — with over 25,000 New Yorkers now ill, more than 200 dead and the sickness’ spread accelerating like a “bullet train.” Cuomo tore into President Trump and the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s vow to send 400 ventilators to New York — a sliver of the 30,000 it’s anticipated the state will need. “You want a pat on the back for sending 400 ventilators?” asked a visibly angered Cuomo in a press briefing at the Javits Center, currently being converted to a 2,000-bed hospital complex. “What are we going to do with 400 ventilators? “You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die,” said Cuomo — so incensed that he misstated the 29,600 New Yorkers who would actually be left without the life-saving equipment. Trump placed a travel ban on China to try and protect the citizens of this country from COVID-19?: Cuomo proposes 3 percent tax on new medical facilities Many health care firms looking to erect new medical facilities face a fat tax hike under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s $178-billion budget plan (https://nypost.com/2020/01/21/gov-andrew-cuomo-to-unveil-2020-new-york-state-budget-amid-6b-deficit/). The proposal will slap health care providers with a new 3 percent surcharge — on top of the current .55 percent fee — to win Albany’s OK to construct new hospital facilities, nursing homes, diagnostic treatment centers, ambulatory surgery centers and other clinics Cuomo is trying to close a projected $6 billion shortfall in his spending plan (https://nypost.com/2020/01/21/gov-andrew-cuomo-to-unveil-2020-new-york-state-budget-amid-6b-deficit/), and the proposal is an effort to generate $70 million in revenue. Firms seeking to start or open new medical facilities cannot do so unless a “certificate of need” application is approved by the state Health Department. But health care advocates and analysts said the 3 percent surcharge is a sick tax that should be rejected. “This does not seem to be fully thought through. In the Public Health Law, ‘hospital’ is a broad term that includes not only things we ordinarily call hospitals, but also community health centers, clinics, nursing homes, etc,” said Assembly Health Committee Chairman Richard Gottfried (D-Manhattan). https://nypost.com/2020/01/26/cuomo-proposes-3-percent-tax-on-new-medical-facilities/ https://youtu.be/WBYEalkWNag https://medium.com/concentrated-benefits/how-state-certificate-of-need-con-laws-impact-access-to-health-care-b8d3ec84242f -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 17] Author : NightTrain Date : 03-24-2020 08:37 PM So Cuomo is all pissed off that Pres. Where do homeless people shelter in place anyway? : Coronavirus in NY: 30 people in homeless shelters test positivehttps://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/homeless-coronavirus-91.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1 The number of homeless individuals in New York City’s crammed shelter system infected with the coronavirus exploded to 30 from just a single case (https://nypost.com/2020/03/18/woman-tests-positive-for-coronavirus-at-city-homeless-shelter/) reported last week – with one being referred from the equally stressed public hospital network. One of the homeless people who tested positive was sent to a shelter by a public hospital because the person exhibited only mild symptoms and was not deemed sick enough to be admitted, a Department of Homeless official said. The hospital referral was first reported (https://thecity.nyc/2020/03/nyc-hospitals-send-homeless-who-have-coronavirus-to-shelters.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebutton) by The City. Anticipating a massive increase of infected shelter residents, DHS has identified 500 isolated units in the system that can be used to quarantine its clients. These units will be located in facilities separate from the regular homeless population, said spokesman Isaac McGinn. The 30 COVID-19 cases were identified across 22 shelter locations. The sprawling shelter system serves 58,000 homeless individuals at 450 sites. Eight of the infected shelter residents were ill enough to be hospitalized, 10 are quarantined in separate locations, seven are “self-isolating” in their own units and five have left the shelter system, McGinn said. https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/coronavirus-in-ny-30-people-in-homeless-shelters-test-positive/?utm_source=whatfinger -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 19] Author : Kathianne Date : 03-25-2020 10:49 AM 3/25/20 Cuomo says that the numbers appear to be slowing, though still rising. Still hard to say that it's truly cause and effect. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 20] Author : Drummond Date : 03-25-2020 11:16 AM More generalised commenting, here, from a foreigner .... The BBC relayed some of Cuomo's Press briefing. We heard his speech about New York being other cities' future. It was a warning all of your politicians need to heed. Especially Trump, who (again, as the BBC is relaying, and adding its own commentary to !) is apparently expecting America to have turned a corner by Easter, enough to 'open up the country' .. ? The BBC's coverage had an American scientist come on air for a Skype interview ... and this scientist was as forthright as you could possibly imagine in his views about how wrong-headed that all was. Of course, since that's the BBC's own broadcast, you could expect them to trawl around for the strongest criticism available against Trump (we've seen street interview after street interview of 'ordinary' Americans who have only bad things to say about Trump ... usually including one Trump backer, who 'amazingly' comes across as less articulate, etc ..). But in this case, whether or not it was anti-Trump weighted ... I think the scientist is right. Italy seems to be a Covid-19 trend template. I'm sure most of America will mirror it, assuming that isolations don't skew matters. We're sure that London is, and London is 2-3 weeks behind Italy. We're expecting a steep rise in both infections and deaths, starting right now. But as for Trump ... I'm disappointed. He does appear not to be comprehending the reality of Covid-19's capacity for harm. I think that the 'high risk strategy' dynamic businessman methodology Trump may have employed elsewhere in other circumstances, cannot be safely applied here ! I don't think Covid-19 is aiming to do a deal ! I hope Trump can learn and 'wise up'. Because if not, if he really has more of a regard for the US economy than human life (the BBC's chosen viewpoint, from what I've seen) ... well ......... :shitfan::shitfan: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 21] Author : jimnyc Date : 03-25-2020 11:21 AM Comparisons from around the nation give you and idea just how bad it is here in NY. 16,000 approx cases in NYC and 4,000 here in Westchester - not even counting the rest of the state. Andrew Cuomo plans to close some streets in New York City and may close parks and playgrounds to contain the coronavirus outbreak by reducing density. State and local officials are taking a tougher stance because city residents aren’t following the state’s guidance encouraging people to maintain a distance of at least six feet from each other, he said. “The plan is going to pilot closing streets in New York City because we have much less traffic in New York City. We have many fewer vehicles in New York City. Open streets,” by opening the streets, fewer people will congregate in the parks, he said in a press conference Wednesday. “People want to walk. So it’s technically possible to do at the convention or even later if Biden agrees to drop out or otherwise can’t continue. But both paths are complicated could lead to even worse results for the Democrats if things go totally pear-shaped on them. The last thing I’ll offer is a warning to Democrats that Cuomo’s moment in the sun recently doesn’t erase his very problematic past, so even if they were inclined to tank Uncle Joe, they might want to consider someone else. Let’s not forget that there are more skeletons in Cuomo’s closet than in your average Halloween haunted house. During his time as governor, Cuomo has been involved in so many campaign finance, fundraising and appropriation scandals that books could be written on the subject. So many of his associates, cronies and former aides are either currently in prison or avoided jail time with plea deals on things like bid-rigging that they could start their own prison baseball team. Others were convicted of bribing judges and one of his longest-serving aides who he frequently described as being “more like a brother” got six years for lining his own pockets out of a massive, failed “stimulus” scheme known as the Buffalo Billion. Somehow, despite all of the corruption that’s been dredged up in the Cuomo administration, the Governor himself has always somehow managed to slip the noose and not be hauled in front of a judge himself. Granted, if he suddenly became the nominee, I have no doubt that CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times and the Washington Post would do their best to provide cover for him and rarely if ever, mention any of these stories. But there would be Trump advertising fodder aplenty and the word would eventually get out. That’s why I don’t think Cuomo would survive a prolonged, hard-fought campaign. The only way he might be able to win would be in a very short, ambush-style race where he showed up as the nominee at the last minute and raced to the finish line before the opposition had a chance to catch their breath. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 35] Author : NightTrain Date : 03-25-2020 03:03 PM It appears the writing is on the wall over Cuomo now. The only person that the DNC could throw it to now is Bernie, and there's no way in hell they'd do that. The only other alternative would be if Biden suddenly completed his dementia swan dive publicly - which is becoming more likely - and nominating his VP instead. The VP that the DNC inserts is the one they really want to be President. That choice isn't Joe's to make anymore, that right was signed over to the DNC when they rescued his campaign by forcing the others out and endorsing him. If you've watched any Biden clips lately, they're sad. He's clearly senile or suffering from dementia and it really is elder abuse. Yet, his wife and the DNC continue with this because they desperately don't want Bernie to sink the lot of them. It will be when it's too close to the election to change candidates when they put in the VP. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 36] Author : FakeNewsSux Date : 03-25-2020 08:55 PM STUNNING! Cuomo Refused to Invest in More Ventilators for Pandemics – Instead Invested in Boondoggle Solar Panel Farm As reported earlier New York Governor Andrew Cuomo dismissed purchasing emergency ventilators for the state in case of a pandemic. Instead the Cuomo administration organized a medical panel in the state to design a color-coded system to label patients on who would receive the ventilator during a pandemic. The TGP report written by contributor Kristinn Taylor was based on a column published earlier this month (http://betsymccaughey.com/we-didnt-have-to-have-ventilator-shortage-leaders-chose-not-to-prep-for-pandemic/) by the esteemed former New York Lieutenant Governor Betsy McCaughey (who served under Governor George Pataki), a February report by the New York Times and a 2015 press release by the Cuomo administration. And we also discovered evidence from a New York State Health Department important report (https://www.health.ny.gov/regulations/task_force/reports_publications/docs/ventilator_guidelines.pdf) on why the decision was made to reject purchasing emergency ventilators. The extra ventilators were not purchased due to funding concerns. Page 30 of 272 pages. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/wp-content/uploads/ny-ventilator-purchases--600x313.jpg The Cuomo Administration rejected the purchase of the ventilators and as The New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/27/nyregion/new-york-coronavirus.html) reported they focused on lotteries and death panels instead. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/wp-content/uploads/ny-times-quote-ventillators-600x169.jpg Real Clear Politics (https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/03/18/new_yorks_ventilator_rationing_plan_142685.html) reported: At its most severe, coronavirus attacks the lungs, making it impossible to breathe without a ventilator. Landing in the hospital on a ventilator is bad. But worse is being told you can’t have one. After learning that the state’s stockpile of medical equipment had 16,000 fewer ventilators than New Yorkers would need in a severe pandemic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo came to a fork in the road in 2015. He could have chosen to buy more ventilators. Instead, he asked his health commissioner, Howard Zucker to assemble a task force and draft rules for rationing the ventilators they already had. That task force came up with rules that will be imposed when ventilators run short. Patients assigned a red code will have the highest access, and other patients will be assigned green, yellow or blue (the worst) depending on a “triage officer’s” decision. In truth, a death officer. Let’s not sugarcoat it. It won’t be up to your own doctor. Cuomo could have purchased the additional 16,000 needed ventilators for $36,000 apiece or a total of $576 million in 2015. It’s a lot of money but less than the $750 million he threw away on a boondoggle “Buffalo Billion” solar panel factory. When it comes to state budget priorities, spending half a percent of the budget on ventilators is a no brainer. Now the pandemic is actually here. Cuomo’s grim reaper rules will be applied. New York City’s deputy commissioner for disease control Demetre Daskalakis is anticipating “some very serious difficult decisions.” So far, in New York City, 1 out of every 4 people with a confirmed case has been hospitalized, and 44% of them have needed a ventilator. In January The New York Post (https://nypost.com/2019/02/15/worse-than-amazon-cuomos-buffalo-billion-just-went-bust/) reported on Governor Cuomo’s Buffalo Bust. http://thegatewaypundit.com/2020/03/stunning-cuomo-refused-to-invest-in-more-ventilators-for-pandemics-instead-invested-in-boondoggle-solar-panel-farm/?utm_source=whatfinger -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Debate Policy - Political Message Board (http://www.debatepolicy.com) at 03-18-2024 09:44 PM.
