Everyone wants to blame this on media, but just as I sat there and said that Reverend Wright was the asshole for what he said, but this was something she herself said, she knew it was not even close to accurate, it was such an obvious and blatant pandering for votes.

There was no clipping, they didn't simply take a single piece of what she herself said, they simply played her own words, and then played through her visits to bosnia. It was likely someone at the news station who had been around for that story, probably worked on it, and went, "Wait a tic. I don't remember any sniper fire"

We scream "media bias" too often these days, sometimes a single person is just an asshole, and the people around him excuse those asshole moments because in most other ways, they believe the person is a good person, or at least used to be and could be again. We have all had friends who started out well, but who went down a path we didn't agree with, and we cannot expect more than that out of our leaders.

Another point with Obama is attached to race, and that is, that he cannot distance himself too far from that church, because if he does, then he would have lost the black vote, slapped as a "sellout", and if you're a black man who can't get the black vote, you don't get elected.

I do not believe the media was being biased in this manner, it was just too blatant a lie, one that could be disproven by one person who remembers that trip to Bosnia. Hilary chose her fate with those words, and she made it as clear as possible that she meant that she was under fire personally, not in a general "somewhere in the country there is sniper fire" way, she went over it from several different tacks. The tactics that both of these candidates have shown the past months though, is deplorable, the worst examples of what our politicians have become.

To quote Lee Iococca: "Where have all the leaders gone?"
You are not alone. Many people asre defending Hillary for lying thru her teeth. To most Clinton and Obama supporters, facts are in a mere detail and do not allow them to get int he way of their continued support

Hillary has been caught in another lie

Will Media Pounce on Hillary's Lie About Dead 'Uninsured' Pregnant Woman?
    By Noel Sheppard | April 5, 2008 - 14:41 ET

The New York Times on Saturday exposed another lie that Hillary Clinton has been telling on the campaign trail about a pregnant woman in Ohio that supposedly died because she was refused care at a hospital due to being uninsured (embedded video of her related speech right, h/t Hot Air).

The hospital in question is now refuting these claims, and asking the junior senator from New York to "immediately desist from repeating this story."

Given the firestorm Hillary came under two weeks ago for her Bosnia sniper fire fib, one has to wonder just how much attention media will pay to this recent yarn deliciously uncovered by the Times (emphasis added):

Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee.

The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.

"We implore the Clinton campaign to immediately desist from repeating this story," said Rick Castrop, chief executive officer of the O'Bleness Health System.

Linda M. Weiss, a spokeswoman for the not-for-profit hospital, said the Clinton campaign had never contacted the hospital to check the accuracy of the story, which Mrs. Clinton had first heard from a Meigs County, Ohio, sheriff's deputy in late February. [...]

Since Ms. Bachtel’s baby died at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, the story implicitly and inaccurately accuses that hospital of turning her away, said Ms. Weiss, the spokeswoman for O’Bleness Memorial said. Instead, the O’Bleness health care system treated her, both at the hospital and at the affiliated River Rose Obstetrics and Gynecology practice, Ms. Weiss said.

The hospital would not provide details about the woman’s case, citing privacy concerns; she died two weeks after the stillbirth at a medical center in Columbus.

“We reviewed the medical and patient account records of this patient,” said Mr. Castrop, the health system’s chief executive. Any implication that the system was “involved in denying care is definitely not true.”

Ohio Hospital Contests a Story Clinton Tells
    By DEBORAH SONTAG

Over the last five weeks, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York has featured in her campaign stump speeches the story of a health care horror: an uninsured pregnant woman who lost her baby and died herself after being denied care by an Ohio hospital because she could not come up with a $100 fee.

The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.

“We implore the Clinton campaign to immediately desist from repeating this story,” said Rick Castrop, chief executive officer of the O’Bleness Health System.

Linda M. Weiss, a spokeswoman for the not-for-profit hospital, said the Clinton campaign had never contacted the hospital to check the accuracy of the story, which Mrs. Clinton had first heard from a Meigs County, Ohio, sheriff’s deputy in late February.

A Clinton spokesman, Mo Elleithee, said candidates would frequently retell stories relayed to them, vetting them when possible. “In this case, we did try but were not able to fully vet it,” Mr. Elleithee said. “If the hospital claims it did not happen that way, we respect that.”

The sheriff’s deputy, Bryan Holman, had played host to Mrs. Clinton in his home before the Ohio primary. Deputy Holman said in a telephone interview that a conversation about health care led him to relate the story of Ms. Bachtel. He never mentioned the name of the hospital that supposedly turned her away because he did not know it, he said.

Deputy Holman knew Ms. Bachtel’s story only secondhand, having learned it from close relatives of the woman. Ms. Bachtel’s relatives did not return phone calls Friday.

As Deputy Holman understood it, Ms. Bachtel had died of complications from a stillbirth after being turned away by a local hospital for her failure to pay $100 upfront.

“I mentioned this story to Senator Clinton, and she apparently took to it and liked it,” Deputy Holman said, “and one of her aides said she’d be using it at some rallies.”...
