    I didn't know the site was lost. When I lived in Virginia there was a listing on every map for "George Washington's Birthplace" and I (wrongly) assumed this was his boyhood home. Good post.

    When I was stationed in England, we went to his family's ancestrial farm in England, Sulgrave Manor.

    I agree, fascinating. I knew that Washington embellished a bit regarding his austere early years. For some reason I've always thought it was to make his brother into his savior. Why? That I've never been clear on. More reading seems called for.
