Iraq vet questions youth football gun raffle

MILLERSTOWN, Pa. — An Iraq war veteran says a youth football league in central Pennsylvania is using inappropriate prizes in a raffle fundraiser: rifles.

David Diaz, who served two years in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division, said he doesn’t want his 9-year-old daughter, a cheerleader, to sell tickets for the October nightly raffle.

“It doesn’t seem right that we are using guns to raise money so they can play football,” Diaz said.

The money from the sale of the $10 raffle tickets will go to the Greenwood-Newport Midget Football Association, which puts on games with children ages 5 to 13.............

Seems to me that gun raffles in youth football games aren't in the best interests of gun advocates. If I am mistaken, I think I will raffle off a few of my small caliber handguns in this season's high school xball games and we'll see how that little proposition goes!!!!!!!!!

Whats wrong with it? Guns are a constitutional right, and there is nothing shameful in wanting to protect your home and family.

Our local police department is having a raffle for a GLOCK 27, I bought 2 tickets. Great way to raise money!

What if a kid wins it? Does he get to keep it?

If he is of leag age, of course he gets to keep it. You don't have to be 21 to won a gun in the U.S. there are certian rules governing which gun you may own before your 18 and what type of ammo you may purchase....

good lord, why don't they just raffle porn? I mean it's your right to own it, and as long as it raises money it must be great...right?
If you also agree that an animals suffering should be avoided rather than encouraged, consider what steps you can take.

Some of the shit we think of to talk about on here is r...e.....a....l....l.....y interesting. Americans have been raffling off stuff to pay for youth programs for decades. If the soldier does not want his daughter to sell the tickets, then fine, sell candy bars.....whatever!

There are all kinds of laws that dictate what can and can't be done on or close to school properties, emmie. I think the hawks are pushing the issue on this one.

We have police, DA's and courtrooms to sort it all out, I think.

You are correct, hawk. There is no "expicit" right to own porn in the constitution. Does that mean owning porn is unconstitutional?

Maybe "shameful" is a misnomer, hawk.

Perhaps "responsible" would be a better consideration?
