There were several bear market rallies right after Black Monday, 1929.
However, 24 months later stocks were 1/4 to 1/3 the price they had been AFTER Black Monday, and the Depression was nearly at it's low point.
People like to think that whatever is going on this five minutes will persist forever; but it generally doesn't. It's hard to train oneself to expect change; we want to expect continuation of whatever is going on now.
