Default Public Support for Economic Recovery Plan Slips to 42%

Now that people are finding out what is in this mega pork fest, their support for it is dropping

I hope this makes Republicans in the Senate to stand untied, and block it form passing

Public Support for Economic Recovery Plan Slips to 42%

Thursday, January 29, 2009 Email to a FriendAdvertisement
Public support for the economic recovery plan crafted by President Obama and congressional Democrats has slipped a bit over the past week. At the same time, expectations that the plan will quickly become law have increased.

Forty-two percent (42%) of the nation’s likely voters now support the president’s plan, roughly one-third of which is tax cuts with the rest new government spending. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 39% are opposed to it and 19% are undecided. Liberal voters overwhelmingly support the plan while conservatives are strongly opposed.

Last week, support for the President’s plan was at 45% and opposition at 34%

As they consider the size and scope of the $800-billion-plus economic recovery plan, 46% are worried that the government will end up doing too much while 42% worry that it will do too little

At least the GOP was united in their opposition of this wild spending.

My sister ( who for some strange reason voted Obama) is completely against ALL of the stimuluses that have been passed.

Trig, the support will continue to drop as more of the pork comes to out in the open

This mega pork bill is nearly 1/3 of the annual Federal budget

    snip

“We Will Ban All Earmarks In The Recovery Package.”
    - Barack Obama, Press Conference, 1/6/09

Here are just six points in the bill:

$20 million “for the removal of small- to medium-sized fish passage barriers.” (Pg. 45 of Senate Appropriations Committee report: “20,000,000 for the removal of small- to medium-sized fish passage barriers)

$400 million for STD prevention (Pg. 60 of Senate Appropriations Committee report: “CDC estimates that a proximately 19 million new STD infections occur annually in the United States …The Committee has included $400,000,000 for testing and prevention of these conditions.”)

$25 million to rehabilitate off-roading (ATV) trails (Pg. 45 of Senate Appropriations Committee report: “$25,000,000 is for recreation maintenance, especially for rehabilitation of off-road vehicle routes, and $20,000,000 is for trail maintenance and restoration”)

$34 million to remodel the Department of Commerce HQ (Pg. 15 of Senate Appropriations Committee report: $34,000,000 for the Department of Commerce renovation and modernization”)

$70 million to “Support Supercomputing Activities” for climate research (Pgs. 14-15 of Senate Appropriations Committee Report: $70,000,000 is directed to specifically support supercomputing activities, especially as they relate to climate research)

$150 million for honey bee insurance (Pg. 102 of Senate Appropriations Committee report: “The Secretary shall use up to $ 50,000,000 per year, and $150,000,000 in the case of 2009, from the Trust Fund to provide emergency relief to eligible producers of livestock, honey bees, and farm-raised fish to aid in the reduction of losses due to disease, adverse weather, or other conditions, such as blizzards and wildfires, as determined by the Secretary”)

Amazing how the GOP finally got religion on opposing pork. Why the hell didn't they vote this way when they controlled Congress?

Maybe, just maybe, their 2 back to back election losses have taught them a lesson

Now we will see if the Republicans can hold together in the Senate

When the GOP doesn't whine and scream when candidates from the Club for Growth run and win primaries, I might change my thinking about them. For now, I find it to be merely opportunistic.

We will know in a few days. I hope this mega pork bill dies like the "immigrations reform" bill

Then Dems can whine and scream about talk radio and the bloggers for killing it as they did over the amnesity bill
