Default Obama to mandate new gas mileage standards (aka trading blood for oil)

Car engines and transmissions are already about as efficient as they can get, for running on gasoline. So, the only way you can increase the gas mileage of cars, is by using hybrid technology (doubling the price of cars), different fuels (which Barry isn't doing here)... or making the cars smaller and lighter.

And it's been well established for years, that smaller and lighter cars are less crashworthy than larger, heavier cars. Crash two small cars together, and you have significantly more chance of death and injury, than if you crash two large cars together. And of course, if you crash a big car and a small one together, guess which car's occupants get smashed up more?

By mandating higher gas mileage by legislative fiat, Obama is directly causing the deaths of hundreds or thousands more Americans. And he is doing simply for the purpose of saving gas. He has made the decision that the oil saved, is worth the additional deaths and injuries his decision will cause. He is, quite literally, trading blood for oil.

When can we expect the "NO BLOOD FOR OIL" hysterics who kept attending protests of the Gulf Wars, to show up outside the White House with their big signs, mindless chants, and stained bongs in response to this latest decision?

Obama to Detail New Car Fuel Standards Tuesday, Reports Say

    by WSJ Staff
    May 18, 2009, 1:24 PM ET

New U.S. fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles are to be announced Tuesday by President Barack Obama, various news Web sites reported Monday. In part, the Obama administration will direct the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to jointly set limits on tailpipe emissions, the Detroit News reported. Politico.com also reported news of the pending announcement, saying the new Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standards will be promoted by the White House as historic because they’re meant to avoid a patchwork of standards in different states.

Is that why he is doing it? Heck he could start today, make an executive order and create an agency to monitor everybody's tire pressure. It would create jobs and save the planet. Who isn't for that?

Why does Obama think he can simply order new technology developed? Just because the President and Congress order it doesnt mean it's even physically possible.

    This is ridiculous.

So, right now the states and the fed collect taxes on gas sold by the gallon. Obama insists on more miles per gallon, what effect is that going to have on tax revenue? Well it doesn't tax a genuis to realize that fewer gallons purchased equates to fewer taxes collect. Oh, but that will not do, the governments are still going to need as much or more tax revenue to keep up on road contruction and maintance. So how will the government make up the difference? How about transpoders in each vehicle and the government tracks your movement?

This should put the final nail on the coffin of the BIg Three

At least this did not cost the US taxpayers $7 billion like the Chrysler bailout did

It wil cost us more money when we buy a new car, and more people will die in auto crashs - but this Obama's way to apy back the tree huggers for their support

Is President Obama making a good decision, requiring smaller, lighter cars to save oil, and accepting the increase in injuries and deaths that those smaller, lighter cars will produce?

If Obama and the Dems push for a higher gas tax, he will get support from some in the liberal media

So what if a higher gas tax will hurt those the Dems claim to care about, cause the price of goods and services to rise, and fuel inflation

ABC's Diane Sawyer Pleads for European-style Gas Tax
By Scott Whitlock (Bio | Archive)
    May 19, 2009 - 11:01 ET

"Good Morning America" co-host Diane Sawyer on Tuesday aggressively lobbied for the Obama administration to install a European-style gas tax on the United States. Talking to Carol Browner, Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change, about Obama's plans for increased fuel standards, she began, "Why not just go to a gas tax, for instance, which would accomplish a reduction in the use of gasoline, dependence on foreign oil right away?" Sawyer would proceed to ask variations on this question six times.

Citing calls for a gas tax by New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, she pressed, "If you really want to change the fuel patterns of this country, and if you want to reduce dependence on foreign oil, not by 2015 or 2016, but right now, there is one way to do it. It's the way Europe has been doing it. And that is a gasoline tax." Browner mostly dodged the question and focused on new fuel and environmental standards. Sawyer, however, would not be deterred. She fretted, "Do you think the gas tax approach is right or wrong? Or just politically unacceptable?" Not liking the non-answers, the ABC host argued, "So, no gas tax ever, as far as you're concerned?"

Obama to Detail New Car Fuel Standards Tuesday, Reports Say

We already have cars that meet both mileage and emissions standards. This is just another excuse for Obama to exercise his control-freak, Big Brother nature by having the Fed Government once again wipe its ass with the 10th Amendment.

Detroit only exists as a new Federal Department.

Using CAFE Standards to lower gas consumption is like trying to sweeten coffee by swirling a banana in it.

How much will these cars cost? Will you have to make 150k per year to afford them?
