House bans 'LIAR', 'HYPOCRITE', 'INTELLECTUALLY DISHONEST'

House guidelines for Presidential put-downs

House Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) has released a helpful, updated primer for members regarding their conduct on the floor and in committees.

Especially useful: The section on how to properly insult the executive branch in the in the chamber.

"Disgrace" and "nitwits" -- okay.

"Liar" or "sexual misconduct" -- ixnay.

Under section 370 of the House Rules and Manual it has been held that a Member could:

• refer to the government as “something hated, something oppressive.”
• refer to the President as “using legislative or judicial pork.”
• refer to a Presidential message as a “disgrace to the country.”
• refer to unnamed officials as “our half-baked nitwits handling foreign affairs.”

Likewise, it has been held that a member could not:

• call the President a “liar.”
• call the President a “hypocrite.”
• describe the President’s veto of a bill as “cowardly.”
• charge that the President has been “intellectually dishonest.”
• refer to the President as “giving aid and comfort to the enemy.”
• refer to alleged “sexual misconduct on the President’s part.”

Let's face it, if you make enough laws, rules and regulations, eventually EVERYTHING is illegal! Good thing I'm not an a memeber of Congress because the first thing I would do is violate every one of those "guidelines"!

Dems are saying Wilson should have acted in a more dignified manner, but this is even less dignified. Insulting the President is one thing, but Congress itself insulting the US Constitution is another, and major, issue

Keep it up, Dems. America is watching and listening. 2010 is going to be a wake up call for you

I'll say that I'd wish that Congressmen, in Senate and House, would think before they spout off or react to things said. However, I do wish that to harken back to Ted Kennedy, I wish more would 'hit hard' and then say, "How'd I'd
do?" to the opposition, then say something about the tussle.

There should be respect on both sides. Somehow we've become a nation of disrespect. It's wrong. Calling racists is wrong, towards those that disagree with executive. Calling 'communist' to executive that at best is socialist is wrong. That one party went over the top in response to SCOTUS ruling and never let up, even after the worst attack on US since WWII, has thrown off the reasonable tension between the parties. To pretend that somehow all was Kumbaya happened on 9/11 is a falsehood, and not just in Palestine. That it's now accepted as truth is a joke.

The reaction of the minority back when, and the consequent response of the now minority is problematic for both. Things aren't getting done. I hope that somehow the Democrats in Congress realize that the time for compromise has come, I don't expect it from executive.
