Many remember the past, often the catalyst for moving to somewhere else. Blacks in US moved, but not by choice. It wasn't just the 'white man' that forced the move, but tribal enemies and those that would exploit them. So yes, black history is different than others currently in this country.

However, so have been the wars and legislation in US resulting from slavery.

Today, actually about 30 years ago or so the time for whining about reparations was past. Not something that should happen, though I'd count nothing out.

How do you figure???? Do you actually deny the FACT that most slave traders bringing black to the US actually acquired them from other tribes????

The slave traders didn't do a whole lot of work in capturing the slaves they traded with the coastal tribes for other tribes taken in small wars..

As I mentioned with some snark the Greeks were really into slavery, not just Sparta, they just get discussed more than others. Athens especially gets short shift on the bad parts of behavior, thanks to democracy.

In the Middle Ages, many of our White European ancestors were held in slavery. We Irish know all about the Spanish, every bit as much as the Mexicans.

It was the Africans bad luck that the workings of slavery changed with the Age of Exploration. Instead of tribes just exploiting those captured by use of labor and rape, they could gain wealth through the sale of those captured.

In any case, there are no 'peoples' hands free from that stain. Neither are there ways to atone for something not done to or by those alive.
