Default Military ballots may not count in Illinois

Is this new incomptence or just old incompetence showing up in new areas?

Could this be a planned way of getting rid of votes that typically don't swing toward the left?

The U.S. Justice Department is investigating whether the state of Illinois missed the deadline for mailing absentee ballots to members of the military and other overseas American voters as part of a new federal overseas voting law.

Cris Cray, Director of Legislation at the Illinois State Board of Elections, says not all of Illinois' 110 jurisdictions were compliant with the 2009 Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE).

The law requires every state to mail their absentee ballots 45 days prior to Election Day to overseas troops, government employees and other Americans who want to vote from abroad.

Cray says she is currently compiling data from each of Illinois' jurisdictions to determine which were compliant and which were delinquent. Cray said it's possible the ballots may not be counted because the state was tardy in sending them out.

Illinois was required to have all of its absentee ballots mailed by Sept. 18, the national deadline. Election officials have until Nov. 15 to count the absentee ballots, which must be postmarked by midnight Nov. 1 to be eligible.

I bet the jurisdictions that weren't compliant were predominantly democrat.

    It's not a new problem:

EVERSOLE: Military voters soon to be disenfranchised - again
Panther prejudice not the only problem at Justice
By M. Eric Eversole -The Washington Times6:11 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010Illustration: DOJ: Return to Sender by Linas Garsys for The Washington Times

By most accounts, the 2008 presidential election was a disaster for military voters. Thousands of them were disenfranchised when their absentee ballots were sent to wrong addresses, lost in the mail or mailed too close to the election for the ballot to be returned. To make matters worse, thousands of ballots were rejected by local election officials because the ballot - through no fault of the military voter - arrived after the election deadline.

Much of this disaster could have been avoided by the Voting Section of the Justice Department, and without swift action, the Voting Section will cause a similar disaster in 2010 despite congressional efforts to fix the problem.

The long-standing problems associated with military voting are well-known. As most Americans discovered during the 2000 election, military voters face significant hurdles when voting because of the transitory nature of military life and the delays associated with delivering absentee ballots, especially to war zones. These problems only have increased as America has sent hundreds of thousands of military members to Iraq and Afghanistan...

That's exactly what it is, and it's not the first time they have done it. Liberals are depreciable. In both NY and Ill., they conveniently forgot to send them out. They asked for extensions and failed to meet the goals again. But you can bet the vote at home ballots got there with time to spare. Even the first lady doesn't have the grace and common sense to know you can't campaign within a certain area around a polling place, never mind inside of one.
