Card check primer: The union label
Monday, June 13, 2011
Imagine finding out without notice that one's workplace has been unionized, forcing union dues on all employees -- much to the surprise and dismay of those who want no part of it.
Welcome to the union trap commonly referred to as "card check."
More than a few teachers at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School say they were never informed about unionization and not asked to vote before the American Federation of Teachers stepped in.
"A number of employees were not approached at all and found out, quite by accident, that a union had been formed without our input," writes one teacher.
...
Detroit's Federation of Teachers prez Keith Johnson points out in a newsletter that as more charter schools are forced to swallow union wages, benefits and other poisons, "many of them will dry up because they will not be as profitable, thus not as appealing to those seeking to authorize them."
So, if you can't beat 'em, organize 'em and force 'em out of business? This is union thuggery at its worst.
