    Default John Carter of MARS

    Edgar Rice Bourough
Read the books in High School big fun.
Not sure if the Movie's going to do any of the books justice.

    Trailer is Here.

Dela T looks good enough but shes to pale, and frankly she got to many clothes on. Which is an surprisingly moral movie move especially since in the books she practically naked. But good for them.

Kind of hard to make accurate John Carter movies when the people were COMPLETELY naked save their war harnesses. Not going to go over well with censors, I'm thinking. Definitely surprising it's a Disney movie.

And Willem Defoe as Tars Tarkas? THAT must be SOME doing to make that shrimp a 12+ft tall reptilian.

    True.
If this was done to fit my imagination it would be incredibly lush. the Book covers when I was kid were done by Frank Frazzeta, Amazing stuff. Marked my adolescent brain for beautiful women for life.

The Lord of the Rings proved they can do a decent job with the classic fantasy stuff. The one and only version they did of Princess of Mars was really horrible, dumb and many more negative adjectives. It even had and old Tracy Lords as Deja Thoris.

I'm with you rev I hope they do it justice. At least give the Tharks four arms. As I recall John Carter of Mars was actually the last book of the series. Number 10 I think.

I too read them all as a teen along with all 22 Tarzan books, the Venus series, at the earths core and the numerous individual books. Burroughs did seem to have a thing for everyone running around naked.

Rings was awesome, I can nit pick but yeah they really set the standard.

I never got into Tarzan other than the wismiller films. I read the Conan books.

    "old Tracy Lords" LOL.

I had the same books with the same art. Also the Tarzan and Pellucidar series were covered by Frazetta.

Unfortunately, that crappy movie immediately comes to mind when they make mention of a new one. "How can they screw it up worse?" I'm hoping the Disney folks do it justice as well. They aren't known for too many low budget flix.

At least with Disney producing it it shouldn't be a total loss. Samuel Jackson's off shooting the Hobbit so he's not available, but I would be more encouraged if he was doing it. It's a movie that will attract all us old Burroughs fans. The kids in the audiences would be wondering where did all these old people come from.

    More John Carter trailers Out

    <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f6PtNr69gxY?version=3&feature=player_detailpage">< param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f6PtNr69gxY?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

I saw a 3 minute version, it looks like they've changed the story to something that might be pulled out of the can, but I'll probably still give it a shot anyway.

This looks promising. Not sure how well they will keep to the story line but at least the Tharks have four arms. The white ape was a little over sized and the Tharks were a tad skinny.

Burroughs was my first science fiction writer; loved it and still do. I have a lot of Frazzetta's art work as well.

I read a boat load, never heard of this book, or even author. This thread has peaked my interest though.

It's basically A Princes of Mars renamed. The actual book John Carter of Mars was the tenth in the series and completed by his son. Most of the action took place on Jupiter for some reason. Edgar Rice Burroughs is the author of all the Tarzan novels. There were 22 of them all together. He had the Mars series, a Venus series, the Tarzan series, At the Earths Core series, Land that time Forgot series and numerous individual books. I read 95% of all the books he wrote as a kid.

Back when I was drawing and painting I use to emulate Frank Fazzetta art. I got very good at drawing the human figure.
