    Default More "Shariah Law" crap

You're hearing more and more of this over there. How long do you think it'll be before muslims start demanding they be allowed shariah law here?

Muslims demand Sharia student loans because paying interest goes against Islamic law

Muslim groups are calling for a separate student loan system because the interest due to be charged will conflict with rules of Sharia law.

The changes to tuition fees, which come into force next year, will see students charged higher rates of interest on the loans they take out to pay for university.

Until now they have paid the market rate of inflation but the reforms mean students who go on to earn more than £21,000 will have to pay interest of up to 3 per cent.

But in some interpretations of Sharia law, which is Islam's legal system and governs every aspect of Muslim life, loans are forbidden.

If loans are forbidden, what the fuck are they doing taking out loans? Reminds of the Muslim bitch who complained about wanting to where her shroud in her DL picture, well according to Islam she isn't even supposed to be driving.

    Stupid fucking Muslims.

The first question on the loan application should be, are you a muslim? if yes stop right here.

I think the paying of interest is forbidden. They can generally get around that by paying back a higher amount than they borrowed; paying back $3000 when borrowing $2000 for example. In the middle ages the church used to forbid paying interest as well so those who wanted to borrow would generally have to go to the ghetto to see the Jews who had no prohibition on earning interest.

Of course all of this is silly because if a government office weren't the place to get your loan then some private business could step in and offer whatever type of structure that would suffice, but alas...

fj is right. If muslims want to set up in their own community a loan program that conforms to their religion, fine. Just don't fund it with govt money.

Hasidic Jews have a justice system for civil matters that members of the community can agree to be bound by while avoiding American courts. It's not a big deal. Of course, they must also abide by American law in criminal matters. Muslims who are willing can do the same with Shariah law (in civil matters).

We're agreed though that doing this would be a clear violation of "separation of church and state" though , correct?

I wouldn't think so. There's no establishment of religion by a financial contract. It's interesting that the issue now comes up at a time when they may have to borrow more and pay higher interest. They should learn the correct definition of 'usury' as well.

    ...
A spokesman said: 'Because the rate of interest is above the rate of inflation, it is quite blatant usury.'
Usury means the practice of lending money and charging the borrower interest, possibly at a very high rate.

...The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills says discussions are ongoing with student groups about a solution.

But it is thought an alternative, such as already happens with mortgages in which education could be 'rented' instead, may not be agreed until the 2013/14 academic year.

It also seems convenient that semantics can get around any sharia requirement.

Why wouldn't you think so? The government bascially controls student loans now .They set ALL the rules,so if a rule were instituted just for Muslims, then that would be the governmnet catering to a specific religeon.

Who says anyone couldn't use it? But I do think it's a dumb idea, let private banks offer the program.
