Default Global Effect of Texas Drought: Beef Prices

I hope not. I've already noticed the price of beef has gone up a lot in the last few months as it is....

AMARILLO -- Texas cows make up a huge chunk of what ends up in the grocery stores. The state is one of the largest suppliers of meat, and the extreme drought in the region, has hit about a third of the country's supply. The impact on our local economy has been immediate.

"The inputs of the grains, everything the cattle feeders have been looking at, all their inputs have gone up a bit. Corn is higher than its been in years. Wheat is going up," Monte Winders, a futures specialist with Financial Freedom & Futures said.

In the coming months, the rest of the world will feel it too. More feeders are selling off more herds to make up for high operating costs. The extra supply, has kept prices steady, but it won't stay that way.

Just kidding, all protein prices have gone through the roof, even peanuts and legumes.

It was the chimp thread that really sealed it.
