After seeing some of those questions, it is no wonder the below college level kids are messed up. The questions are ambigious. While they "might" make sense to the teacher, there should be a way to ask that question to the student with much more clarity.

I don't really find this funny. I did in HS, but not now. The kids answer was actually quite fitting. While you or other teachers may find the answer quite easy, there are many who would look at that answer and give the same retort.
