Default PETA seeks memorials to cows killed on Ill. roads

Oh Geez...just what we need...memorials to the poor animals stupid pet and livestock owners let run loose.

CHICAGO — An animal rights group wants Illinois to install highway signs in memory of cattle killed when trucks hauling them flipped in two separate wrecks. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has asked for permission to buy the markers, one in suburban Chicago and one northwest of Peoria. The group says the signs would pay tribute to the more than 20 cattle killed as a result of negligent driving this year.

Gee, this seems like a perfectly reasonable use of taxpayer money.

Then I guess we'll see how many memorial signs Gunny's big, red truck can kill on IL roads.

At great personal sacrifice, Gunny and I, along with a few friends, will personally commemorate the tragic bovine deaths ... GRILL TIME!

I can top this one. As of today (1-1-12), in FL, it is illegal to kill hammerhead and tiger sharks in FL waters.

Glad I don't live in Florida anymore. Me 'n sharks don't get along at all.

If true (and not just a stunt, which i think this is) then its nonsense.

You'd think, indeed we all know, things they could much better be spending their time and effort on.
If you also agree that an animals suffering should be avoided rather than encouraged, consider what steps you can take.

Unfortunately, Noir, it's not just a stunt. It it most definitely nonsense.

The local news showed a bit about it last night. They want the state to erect blue signs - like the ones that are erected "in memory of" persons killed by drunk drivers, etc. - alongside the road. Down here, where normal-ish people live, rather in the state of Chicago, most think it's BS. And an insult to people who've been killed on the roads and had a sign put up. Peta's statement is that there's no next-of-kin to stand up for these poor cows and make sure they are remembered. However, if they would have let a bunch of us rednecks at the crash site when it happened, we'd be fondly remembering some awfully good meals right now. It ain't the first time some of us have carved up a bovine for dinner.

The whole thing is udderly ridiculous.

You're more redneck than me. Wow!

Of course, we raised the cows and it's kind of silly to possibly harm one's own property. We knew all the other people with cows too, so you don't want to damage your friend's cows either.
