Default Navigating Candy Land : treats that won't ruin your diet

Totally can go for the gummy candy...

We all learn from an early age that that candy is not a healthy part of the diet. Not only is made of empty calories, but it's bad for our teeth and may contain unhealthy saturated fats.<iframe id="ifr-frame1-300x250" height="1" border="0" src="/static/v/all/html/ad-ifr.html?id=frame1-300x250&ns=friendlyComm" frameBorder="0" width="1" scrolling="no"></iframe>

However, most of us also have a hard time eliminating it from our lives completely. While candy is not a good snack choice, sometimes our cravings can get the best of us. When that happens, don't blow your diet entirely. Reach for one of these options instead:

When it comes to chocolate, try to choose dark chocolate over milk chocolate. Not only is dark chocolate lower in sugar, but it contains antioxidants that have been linked to many health benefits, including reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease. Aim for chocolate with at least 70 percent Cocoa.

Hershey's has a new product, "Simple Pleasures." It's like the best chocolate, with a creamy center. The 'king size' has 6 pieces and the whole package is only 140 calories, no artificial sweetener. Really good, but without the calorie count.

I usually go the home made route. Make your own low carb icecream with a sugar substitute like Natvia (based on Stevia but granulated like sugar). you can also bake cookies and whatever else you like. Since sugar is a diet killer, you wont affect your diet too much this way.

That sounds good. I will have to try those. The last time I was on a diet it lasted about 6/7 months and I craved candy once in awhile. I remember buying carb free candy. Several different kinds put out by the name brand companies...KitKat,Reeses and Hersey bars. Not too bad.

Another idea if you need sweets is making your own chocolate dipped fruit. I did this a few times...used dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate too. Made chocolate covered stawberries, pineapple and frozen bananas. Good stuff.

Or I also would make sugar free jello pudding and eat that...or freeze it in popcicle molds and make fudge bars. You are right...lots of ways to feed the sweet tooth without killing your diet.
