Default Best Convention Night I Can Remember

    IMO, best paragraphs from each:

    Condi Rice:

...“And on a personal note, a little girl grows up in Jim Crow Birmingham. The segregated city of the south where her parents cannot take her to a movie theater or to restaurants, but they have convinced that even if she cannot have a hamburger at Woolworths, she can be the president of the United States if she wanted to be, and she becomes the secretary of state,” Rice said.

“America has a way of making the impossible seemed inevitable in retrospect, but we know it was never inevitable,” she said. “It took leadership. And it took courage.”...
    Full text and video: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0812/80402.html

    Susana Martinez, governor of NM:

(bit more than a paragraph, but context):

I fear some of our leaders today have lost the courage to
stand up. What we have now are politicians. They won't offer
real plans, and only stand up when they want to blame someone
    else.

And I don't say that just because a Democrat is in the
White House, I was a Democrat for many years, so were my
    parents.

Before I ran for district attorney, two Republicans invited
my husband and me to lunch, and I knew a party switch was
exactly what they wanted. So, I told Chuck, ``We'll be polite,
enjoy a free lunch, and then say good-bye.'' But we talked about
issues -- they never used the words Republican or Democrat,
conservative or liberal. We talked about many issues, like
welfare, is it the way of life or hand up? Talked about size of
government, how much should it tax families and small
businesses? And when we left that lunch, we got in the car and
I looked over at Chuck and said, ``I'll be damned. we're
    Republicans.''

And the man I'd hoped would run for President, but I'm still crazy about:

Best paragraph from Ryan's speech tonight, IMO:

...College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life. Everyone who feels stuck in the Obama economy is right to focus on the here and now. And I hope you understand this too, if you’re feeling left out or passed by: You have not failed, your leaders have failed you. ...

Yup, on all three counts. And Condi did her entire speech without a teleprompter!

The speeches just keep getting better and better. I kept saying to my husband, "I love our guys!"

Some more 'highlights' of Ryan's speech:

    http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/149725/

PAUL RYAN: “With all their attack ads, the President is just throwing away money. And he’s pretty experienced at that!”

Plus: “The recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.”

Also: “I have never seen opponents so silent about their record and so desperate to keep their power. They’ve run out of ideas. Their moment came and went. Fear and division is all they’ve got left.”

“College graduates should not have to spend their twenties in their childhood bedrooms, looking up at their fading Obama posters and wondering when they will be able to get going in life.”

UPDATE: Comment: “He looks like a young JFK, only healthy.”

Abbey, think you'll like most of the 'blog posting the whole thing':

    http://althouse.blogspot.com/2012/08...onvention.html

    ...

9:19: Biggest cheer of the night comes when Gov. Susana Martinez says: "I carried at 357 Smith & Wesson Magnum" (referring to her experience, as an 18-year-old, working for her parents security guard business, protecting the Catholic church at bingo times). She's a good speaker. A nice edge of passion in her voice. With toughness.

9:29: Both Meade and I thought: We may be looking at the first woman President of the United States.

9:30: Paul Ryan. Meade says: "He looks like a young JFK only healthy." I'm struck by this quote, directly attacking Obama: "I have never seen opponents so silent about their record and so desperate to keep their power. They've run out of ideas. Their moment came and went. Fear and division is all they've got left."

    ...

Does anyone remember when Obama gave a speech at the 2004 convention? After that speech is when people started saying ... he would make a good candidate for president and now look where we are.

Perhaps the speech given by Susan Martinez will catapult her to the same level. She was awesome!
If the freedom of speech is taken away
then dumb and silent we may be led,

I'm glad you people can enjoy it. I'm voting for Romney, but I have passed my saturation point. I can distribute literature, reading more of it is another story.

I find it odd as a teacher Gabby ridiculing obesity.

It's been a good convention. I especially loved the fact that they are finally showing people the true Mitt. The guy that rolls up his sleeve and gets to work.
If we were as industrious to become good as to make ourselves great, we should become really great by being good, and the number of valuable men would be much increased; but it is a grand mistake to think of being great without goodness; and i pronounce it as certain that there was never yet a truly great man that was not at the same time truly virtuous." - Ben Franklin

Oddly enough. For all of the 43 years my wife and I have been married. THIS has been the very first time, since we watched Reagan accept the nomination for his first term. That she has paid any attention. Or should I say. This much attention.
Both of us enjoyed much of the Bush years. Both terms. But she stayed quiet and just allowed me to be the vocal one in our family, while she took care of other, more important things in our life. Helping me survive my bout with cancer, and heart attacks.
Then. Obama was elected, and she listened to her friends where she worked, at church, and family who began to point out the failings of Obama. Even as she admitted to voting for him, but now. Resents doing so.
Politically. We were divided. Which isn't easy for two people who love, and cherish each other so much. But I allowed her to have her beliefs like the husband I am...biting my tongue, and trying to stay quiet when it came to openly talking about politics.

That all has changed over the last week as she now admits. Obama was a mistake, and even to the point of her showing me, or drawing my attention to his repeated lies.
Come November. TWO of us will be voting for Romney, and Ryan. Proving that all along. She has always been the wiser one in our family.
I love to make Liberals Cry, and Whine.
    So, this is for them.
GOD BLESS AMERICA - IN GOD WE TRUST !

The women on the right are certainly more in touch with the people these days... They will turn the tide for us this election.
