I know my Dad uses Ubuntu on a secondary machine and he loves it. It used to be back in the day that linux more or less required a fair share of knowledge of the command prompt, at least for any advanced use, but no more! I haven't used Linux in awhile and used Red Hat when I did.
As for tablets, I'm still very happy with my Android powered Acer Iconia! Then again, I'm not a hardcore user, so it's more than enough for me.

I might try it out when I replace my Nexus 7, but for the moment I am happy with stock Android.
