Default TNR Writer At Least Is Honest

It's the 'Welfare State' hanging in the balance:

    http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/109648...ey-dishonesty#

...The stakes of an election aren’t always apparent in advance. In 2000, most so-called experts spent the campaign marveling at the lack of difference between George W. Bush and Al Gore. Then Bush got elected and enacted his tax cuts. Then 9/11 happened. And then the U.S. invaded Iraq. We can’t rerun history. But if the Palm Beach County ballots had looked a little different and Gore had become president, the eight years that followed probably would have unfolded differently.

This time around, nobody should be confused. The differences between Obama and Romney are not ambiguous—not even now, after Romney’s post-convention attempt to act like the more moderate, more sensible Republican many of us once thought he could be. The gap between what Obama and Romney believe—and between what each man proposes to do—is larger than it has been for any election I can remember.

    Think about some numbers.

<!--break--> Eight to ten million. That’s the number of people who would lose eligibility for food stamps under the Ryan budget, which Romney praised and pledged to sign. Keep in mind that, in the wake of welfare reform and the decline of cash assistance from the federal government, food stamps have become the primary source of support for low-income people. At least a quarter would be children.

Two hundred thousand and 10 million. That’s the number of kids who’d lose Head Start and the number of college students who’d see Pell Grants decline by $1000, according to official administration estimates, under the Ryan budget that Romney effectively endorsed—unless Romney decided to spare those programs, forcing deeper cuts to other programs.

Fifty-two million. That’s how many people could lose health insurance if Romney repeals Obamacare and enacts his plan for Medicaid. In case it’s not self-evident, that’s a lot of people—about one-sixth of the entire American population.

Eight-hundred billion. That's the ten-year cost of extending the Bush tax cuts for incomes over $250,000. It's a tax cut that benefits only the wealthy; offsetting the cost is a big reason why so many other cuts would have to take place.

The numbers are not precise; each depends on a set of assumptions about policy and, in some cases, the economy. But they give you some idea of the magnitude of the choice voters are facing. And the numbers alone don’t tell the full story.

For more than a hundred years, this country has been trying to manage and tame capitalism, not to undermine it but to save it, by protecting people from its caprice and excess. This crusade advanced in three great waves, pushed along by three of our greatest presidents—Theodore Roosevelt and the Progressive Era, Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal, Lyndon Johnson and the Great Society. The changes Romney has proposed would touch, and undermine, accomplishments that trace back to each of these eras. They would alter the social contract, as it has existed for generations, touching the middle class just as surely as they would touch the poor...

BUT ON TUESDAY VOTERS won’t only be determining the future of the welfare state—or reproductive rights or any of other vital policy areas in which Obama and Romney have such stark differences. They’ll also be rendering a verdict about the importance of candor in presidential campaigns...

I take exception to the way he compares the dishonesty in the campaigns.

    Obama:

But even when Obama’s claims have gotten specific facts wrong, they have told a larger story about policy that’s true.
    Romney:

Romney, meanwhile, has been saying things that are just flatly untrue
insinuating that Obama is confused, but Romney is a liar.

In no way is he attempting to be 'fair.' He's totally committed to the socialist plans in place and seeing them grow.

Totally understand ... was just pointing out how the progressives use little subtle ways to redefine truth. His article sounds like it was written by my new friend (the homeless lady). She is total progressive liberal and we debate this stuff daily. Her logic is so circular and the bottom line is that she doesn't trust Romney because he wears "magic undies". Loooney!

As everyone can read below in my signature. Obama is a professional Liar, and is well versed in the use of twisting, and re-directing his known Lies....that are nearly 100 in number...and Obama has the unchallenged ability to make HIS LIES become the words of anyone who disagree's with him, or attempts to prove Obama Lies...Are Lies.

Obama's success comes from being able to prove....those who follow him are Educationally, Grammatically, and Intellectually Challenged. So, they know. They cannot outspeak him, or prove he is lying...BECAUSE they are not smart enough to do so without admitting their Ignorance.

OBAMA IS A LIAR. OBAMA IS A GREAT LIAR. OBAMA EVEN LIES ABOUT HIS LIES, AND CONVINCES HIMSELF, THEY ARE TRUE.

    Default Food Stamps

I am very close to somebody that gets CA food stamps.

    FACT
    Income per month
    $1,296

    Rent per month
    $1,100

    Utilities per month
    $110

Now, does that seem to you as if the person ought to get a whopping $16.00 per month for food?

The person has to use the local food bank to supply things that $16 can't buy.

If you think Obama is generous with food stamps, guess again.

BTW, yesterday my doctor informed me that should Obama win, he will make major changes in his practice. I don't know what those would be but it sure does not sound good and I need Medicare.

You'll be glad to recognize the underwear issue seems to have clinched it for Obama. I assume you are happy?

    Seriously?

I guess you don't care that your president would rather sit down with the ladies of the view or Letterman than resolve a crisis on the east coast that is worse than Katrina. Now THAT IS STUPIDITY!

Staten Island FEMA Disaster Center Shuts Doors 'Due to Weather' Updated 78 mins ago

TOTTENVILLE — They fly into disaster areas, but flee from raindrops.
A FEMA disaster recovery center in a Hurricane Sandy-ravaged corner of Staten Island that was supposed to provide shelter, food and assistance to hurricane victims Wednesday morning went MIA, posting a sign saying that they were closed due to the approaching nor'easter.

A printed paper sign taped to the front door of on the center at 6581 Hylan Blvd. at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday read “FEMA Center Closed Due to Weather.”

The front doors of the disaster recovery center, which is housed inside the Mount Lorretto Catholic Youth Organization, were unlocked, but there was no staff anywhere in sight for at least a half an hour.

A set of buses which served as a pair of warming centers at the site for the past several days were missing, according to non-FEMA volunteers who continued to hand out supplies from a nearby building despite the storm.

Volunteers at a nearby donation distribution center said the buses vanished on Wednesday.

“FEMA packed up and left,” said Louis Giraldi, 47, a volunteer handing out cleaning supplies to victims.

“We don’t know where they are, so there’s nothing here but us.”

The site is listed on FEMA's list of NYC recovery centers, and was supposed to be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The site was also included in the city's list of warming facilities supposed to open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the site.

A FEMA R/V also sat empty next to the recovery center.

A pair of FEMA workers alarmed by a reporter's camera came out of the building at 11 a.m. and took the sign down, saying the shelter would open at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The worker declined to give his name and would not explain why the site was closed or why the buses were missing.

A FEMA press representative did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

I wasn't aware someone had moved that sign from Washington DC, where it stood in front of the Capitol building, and, instead of FEMA, it said CONGRESS/OBAMA.
